Should Phones be banned at SCHOOL?

L.O.: Summarise the article.

  • Christopher Luxon who is the opposing party in politics has suggested that phones at school should not be allowed for focusing purposes. He supports this research by discovering other schools overseas that have experienced positivity and improving education against cell phones.
  • But currently, schools have their own terms and condition for the usage of phones, whether it is the year level or usage for class purposes.
  • Christopher Luxon did this for the worries of parents whose children could experience cyberbullying or addiction.
  • Since having a cell phone during class would affect the student’s concentration on school work or cause a distraction for the sake of the student’s addiction to the phone. That is why Christopher Luxon says that if he wins the election cellphones would be banned at school

Pros:

  • Allows students to stay focused in class and listen to instructions.
  • No distractions.
  • Having no negative effects on their well-being.
  • Allows students to become sociable and get into the habit of playing outside.
  • Protecting their privacy and excluding cyberbullying.
  • This will improve their performance since they don’t have anything to worry about.
  • Teachers won’t worry about leaving the class.

Cons:

  • Emergency calls.
  • Calling for caregivers to pick up students.
  • Might cause boredom among students which may affect their behavior in class.
  • Easier to take pictures or videos for school projects.
  • Multiple apps for virtual reality to use in science experiments.
  • Would use them in the future.

In my opinion, students should be able to have their phones in their pockets or bags in school but aren’t allowed to use them during class time (depending if the teacher gives permission) or break times.
