DFI Day One- Core Business

Day One-

I enjoyed hearing Dorothy speak so passionately about Manaiakanlani and explaining where it all started and how it has grown to what it is now. This is my first year being in a Chromebook class, so joining DFI so early on in the year will be very beneficial. I am confident with app smashing in the jrs and using different apps on the ipads to learn, create and share. Whereas, the senior school is quite different. In saying this, the students are now the master and they are helping me along and being very patient.

A few of the key takeaways:

  • When pasting a text to use, command shift v, and it gets rid of the formatting! I don’t know how many minutes wasted trying to fix font, size, and spacing. That is one trick I am going to tell my co-teacher tomorrow.
  • Google Docs can be a fantastic create tool!
  • A faster way to match the table border to the paper color. To do this click on the table and on the top right ‘table options’ will pop up, click that, scroll to the bottom, and change the color. Ta Da!
  • The word omnibox is the name for the search bar.
  • The scavenger hunt was a fantastic activity, which tested my navigation tools around a doc, I will be using this in my Classroom.
  • Smart Chips! In a Google Doc type @ and it comes up with a few options, date, stopwatch, calendar, name badge etc…

Attached below is my Leadership Poster. It is still a work in process, as I am grouping the leadership teams next week. I focused on my confidence in using tables, merging cells, and changing line borders to match the background.
