Model atom blog post

Aim: Why did we make model atoms

Equipment:

  1.  Paper
  2.  String
  3.  Tape
  4. -Colored felts
  5. Pencil

Method:

1. First, we had to choose which atom to model from the first 20 elements of the periodic table.

2. Then, we drew the model of the chosen element on a piece of paper.

3. After drawing the model, we cut it out.

4. Next, we attached the model to a string using tape.

5. Following the creation of the atom model, we wrote down some facts about the element on a piece of paper.

6. Finally, we attached the writing paper to the string below the atom model.

Discussion: (Explain the science)

How many protons, electrons, and neutrons does your atom have?  The atom has 7 protons, 7 electrons, and 7 neutrons.

Where do you find each of these particles in the atom? In a nitrogen atom, you would find the protons and neutrons in the nucleus, and the electrons would be found orbiting the nucleus in different energy levels or shells.

What is the mass and atomic number of your atom? The mass number is 14.01, and the atomic number is 7.

What do these numbers mean?  The atomic number represents the number of protons in the nucleus, while the atomic mass describes the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus. These numbers provide information about the identity and properties of the atom.

interesting fact about your atom? Nitrogen is an essential component of living things.

What are isotopes? Isotopes are atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons, resulting in contrasting atomic masses.

Conclusion: Did it work out? Would you do anything differently? string using tape.

Yes, it did work out I would pick a different element that is easier for me to understand.
