A Day in the life of Kōtare

The start of the year has been wonderful! We have made lots of new friends as a new mix of tamariki join our brand new Year 6s.

We start the day with a classroom whakaminenga (assembly) where we have three tamariki on our classroom paepae. We start with a karakia, one tamaiti (child) recites their pepeha to the class, and we sing waiata. Our next step is to get one of the akonga (students) to respond to the pepeha with a mihi poto! Exciting.

Look how tidy our bags are in the cloakroom!

We then head into completing some daily warm ups. We learn and think about random facts that can relate to what we are studying at the moment or maths facts, idioms (sayings) etc. It is a fun quick brain warm up. The tamariki then head for a quick run or 10 min game outside to get the blood further into their brains.

Some days we go swimming. Walking down and back is not our favourite part! We love to swim though.

Walking back up the hill. The worst!
Hard to see, but this was taken the first day of snow for the 2025 year. BRRRRR! We stopped swimming the next week.

It is great to see all the new friendships forming as they get to know each other. Here are photos of the tamariki doing their favourite things or with their favourite things. I hope you enjoy seeing them!

Some of our tamariki got to run our FAB15 assembly too! They got to help hand out certificates and run the computers to make the song words come up. It was awesome to see them get more confident and independent.

Well, that’s it so far!  I will post more as we get more things done. Please leave a positive comment as I will show the class and they will LOVE it!
