Hello,
In social studies class, we discussed what makes an individual important in history, whether they did something positive or negative. I believe it’s someone who changes society and has an effect on people. We researched a significant figure in New Zealand’s history to study their importance and impact. I chose Kate Sheppard to research and wrote a paragraph explaining her significance with a PEEL structure paragraph.
Kate Sheppard is one of the most known and important part of New Zealand’s history, making an immense change to society. She was a prominent member of the women’s suffrage movement, leading and working alongside other pioneering women to win and grant the right for women to vote. Her determination to set up petitions, and unite women to persuade the government resulted in success. The successful campaign then influenced the rest of the world to follow along as New Zealand was one the first self-governed countries in 1893 to officially allow women to vote. Today Kate Shappard is a significant symbol featured on the New Zealand $10 note. I believe that Kate Sheppard has impacted not only the women of New Zealand but the whole world by guiding other countries in the pursuit of women’s justice.
