Aim: To observe and show the convection current with potassium permamganate
Hypothesis: I did not know what would happen with this experiment, I just thought that maybe it would just make the water purple.
Equipment: We used, a hot plate, a beaker, water, heatproof mat, safety goggles, and potassium permanganate.
Method: Put the water in the beaker, then turn the hot plate on, then put a grain of potassium permanganate into the the water on the side, then put the heatproof mat down and put the little part of the beaker where the potassium permanganate is on the hot plate, and watch the convection current go, when it gets too hot then put it down on the heatproof mat, and then go again when it feel better.
Results: The heat of the hot plate pushed the potassium permanganate to do a convection current and the purple to go around and around.
Discussion: When the heat is applied to where the permanganate is then it pushed the purple into the water and it to go around in a circle in the beaker.
Conclusion: When there is heat applied the hot water goes up while the cold water goes down on the other side in a circular motion.
