We have been enjoying the book Marmaduke Duck and the Marmalade Jam. We realised that not everyone has tried marmalade jam so this morning we got out the toaster and had a taste.
We collected our data on tens frames and found out that 14 out of the 18 children at school today liked it. Whaea Jude had some other options for those 4 who decided that it was not for them ( and those who just wanted strawberry jam, honey and /or vegemite)
We discussed the various citrus fruits that we knew and would love to have some samples if you have a tree with any fruit to share.
Cutting toast is a natural way to reinforce fraction knowledge and something you can easily do at home. One whole can be cut into 4 quarters or 2 halves.
Here are the vocabulary words we have been listening out for this week:
Flock means to gather or travel in a crowd, group, or flock. As in, the ducks ‘flocked to the spot for a quick, slick lick of the jam in the pot’.
Jostle means to push, crowd, or bump into on purpose. Like, the animals ‘jostled on the bank‘.
Haste means hurrying too fast or in a careless way. Like, the animals came down to the river ‘in haste for a taste of the marmalade jam‘.
Plunge means to dive or jump. As in, the llama ‘plunged in the river‘.
