Making a Positive Difference!

Hello, people. Yesterday, rooms 4 and 5 went to the reserve and beach to tidy everything up. First, everyone found out what groups they were in. A few others and I were not put into a group, so Ms. Tele’a quickly put us into a group. I had a group with Falen, Lina, and Taina, we were group 11. Every group got a rubbish bag, then every student got one glove each. The plan was that we would start at the top of the reserve, then move down in sections, finally reaching the beach. Half of the groups were sent to an area closer to school first, then the other half were sent to the reserve.

I was in the half that went to the reserve first. Taina was the one holding the rubbish bag, but I kept losing her! We kept switching between who held the bag. I went around picking rubbish with Falen. When the other half arrived at the reserve, we were already half done. Falen and I regrouped with Lina and Taina at the end of the reserve.

Everyone went down to the beach, next. I didn’t know if we were supposed to go, but a few people went down anyway. I saw some of my group down there as well. Finally, the teachers told us to go down, and I did. There was a lot of trash on the shore mixed with the sticks and plants that were washed up by the sea.

I found a rock. The teachers told everyone to meet up for photos, so we did. When I was walking to meet up, I saw another rock. By that time, I let the previous rock go, so of course I wanted that rock. However, after taking the photos, I could not find the rock.

It was time to go back, so everyone made two lines and walked on the sidewalk. Falen was holding our group’s bag, and for some reason people didn’t have bags so people kept putting trash they picked up into our group’s bag. While we were walking, the bell for lunch faintly sounded in the distance. Ms. Tele’a told everyone to head straight back to class, instead of putting their rubbish bags away.

Cleaning up the reserve and beach was a nice experience, I enjoyed being able to go out on my own and clean up wherever I liked, as we had a lot of space. However my group did stray too much from everyone sometimes. I hope you enjoyed reading about what we did yesterday!
