Term 3 Reflection for EAP

During Term 3, my experience in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) class has been both challenging and rewarding. The focus of this term was on developing academic reading, writing, and communication skills, which are essential for success in future studies.

One of the key areas we worked on was academic writing. I learned how to structure essays more effectively, using clear introductions, body paragraphs with supporting evidence, and strong conclusions. This helped me improve the flow of my writing and express my ideas more formally and academically. I also practised referencing sources correctly, which is an important skill for avoiding plagiarism and showing respect for other authors’ work.

Another important part of the term was academic reading. We were encouraged to read articles, identify key ideas, and summarise them in our own words. At first, this was difficult, but over time, I became more confident in identifying the main points and understanding complex vocabulary. This has helped me not only in EAP but also in other subjects.

In addition to reading and writing, we focused on speaking and listening activities. Group discussions and presentations allowed me to practise expressing myself clearly and formally. These tasks also helped me build confidence when sharing my ideas in front of others.

Overall, Term 3 in EAP has strengthened my academic English skills. I have made noticeable progress, but I am also aware of the areas I need to improve, such as expanding my vocabulary and writing more concisely. Moving into Term 4, I aim to continue building on these skills so that I am fully prepared for higher-level academic challenges.
