Fakaalofa lahi atu! This week we proudly supported Niuean Language Week, beginning with the flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning. As a class, we made a spectacular tao (spear) to show at the school assembly. We didn’t realise that it was a competion and our spear won first place in Waka Ahuru. It was such a surprise to hear the announcement and to be given iceblocks as our prize.
We joined the whole of New Zealand in practicing the “Shake Out” drill. We learned that our country sits on two tectonic plates, which means that earthquakes can (and do) happen in Aotearoa. Now we know what to do if we ever find ourselves in a shakey situation. We all practiced getting under desks and tables as quickly as possible and we held on tight.
Congratulations to Azyla, who was awarded our trophy, Tama, to take home for the weekend!
A highlight of the week was Athletics Day on Friday. We had so much fun playing different games, from the Chicken Toss, to the Sack Race. Here are some photos for you to enjoy.
