What is climate change? Climate change is a change and shift in the average weather patterns caused by human activities.

What is causing climate change? Things you could discuss: greenhouse gasses, burning of fossil fuels/combustion, the greenhouse effect, how the greenhouse effect/rising global temperatures can cause extreme weather events (e.g hurricanes)

The causes of climate change is because of natural changes in the globe but it is also mostly because of human activities. Burning fossil fuels is one of the many, because it primarily focuses on producing energy around the world but the smokes resulting into a thicker atmosphere and once the sun’s heat hits the earth, most of the heat is trapped inside, resulting in a rise of temperature and it continues to happen over the years. Combustion is no different. Combustion produces Carbon Dioxide (CO2 gases) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) although Carbon Monoxide is an indirect cause but still a contributor along with gas powered transportation which is also one of the reasons why we have climate change. They also produce CO2 gas emissions which is a main cause of the phenomenon we call the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect can alter our weather patterns and make them more unpredictable little by little over time. Not only that but it also causes more extreme weather such as heatwaves and floods, and hurricanes. This is what the greenhouse effect can do, by alternating unpredictable weather cycles, and yet they only come from human activities.

In 2019, the “school strike 4 climate” movement started in Aotearoa. It’s still continuing today. Why do ākonga (students) throughout Aotearoa and globally want to go on strike from school and protest? Things you could discuss: consequences of climate change both globally and in Aotearoa, how these consequences could be reduced, what demands the movement had and why (explain the science behind this)

The consequences of climate change in terms of global effects, climate change is a pretty big problem along with global warming which is a separate thing. But the world really should consider reducing the human activities that cause greenhouse gases that result in worsening the climate change than it already is by producing transportation that doesn’t have to depend on gasoline that emits CO2 gas. Stop cutting too many trees and plant more, more trees should be planted than being cut down. Aotearoa is the same, by reducing the same activities that cause climate change, the country is already contributing so much to the world.

The reason why students from all around the world strike from school and protest is because they might be worried about the future and they think that the governments are not really taking any serious actions. They asked for policies that fix environmental, social justice and international unity to reduce human activities like ending fossil fuel power plants. These global actions, like the “school strike 4 protest” are determined by the belief that an ethical action is needed and the decisions that the governments will make today will impact the future in the long-term.

You must also include some photos showing the school strike 4 climate.
