Feathers – Kick Start – SLJ

Feathers

Kia Ora, I have just finished my first SLJ task in the new year!

I chose to use the feathers of the Kōkako, Tūī and Takahē, going for a blue theme. I chose these feathers because I thought they would look good with each other. I used the brightest blue first and then as the cloak went on it became darker.

What is a korowai? A korowai is the name for a special cloak. Korowai are a very important taonga (treasure) for maori people. They signify that a person is a leader, respected and has lots of authority.

This task was fun and I enjoyed learning about the history of the feathers and cloaks. I found it difficult at first to get the order of the cloak right and which sections to group, but I figured it out in the end. My next steps might be to complete this task with paper and make an actual cloak.

Overall I really liked this challenge and am looking forward to more tasks and challenges! Thanks for reading!
