Welcome back to my blog.
I have just completed ‘The Flying Fox’ kick start challenge on the Summer Learning Journey.
This task was very interesting. I didn’t know that a flying fox (zip line) is also a very large bat called the Flying Fox (Fruit Bat)! Not only are they very large but they are also Australia’s biggest bat species and some of the largest in the world! I think it is very fascinating how Fruit Bats live in large groups, up to one million.
I think that the zip lines are named after the bats for the many similarities both have. The many similarities are shown below on my Venn diagram. Both the playground flying fox and the bat Flying Fox have much in common. I believe that these many shared similarities inspired the naming of the zip line.
Another sad fact about the Fruit Bat (Flying Fox) is that many species are becoming endangered. There are many reasons including, habitat loss, human conflicts, climate change and food shortages. Unfortunately this threatens their critical role in seed dispersal and pollination.
I really enjoyed learning all of the fun facts about the Fruit Bat. I found it difficult to decide which sections some of the statements fell into on my Venn diagram. My next steps might be to make a more detailed diagram or display the information in a different format.
Thank you for reading!
