End of topic blog – SCIENCE

The aim of this blog is to show how much I have learnt in class. So I sincerely hope I’ve gotten these right!

DNA also known as Deoxyribonucleic acid is in all of your cells. DNA is inside of all of your chromosomes, you have 46 of them in every cell nucleus, and there are about 37.2 trillion cells in your body. A lot of DNA am I right? A segment of DNA is called a gene. You get two sets of genes in one chromosome you inherit these from either of your parents and are called alleles. You can sort of predict what traits would be passed down by using punnet squares. Punnet squares basically tell you what allele is more dominant and what traits the offspring will most likely have.

traits are genes that are inherited from your parents. Although sometimes you may develop these traits over time it is natural selection that chooses if they survive or not. Natural selection works like this when a species has to adapt or die nature tries to keep it alive by changing their traits over time to suit their environment. As these traits are reproduced and become more frequent over time we call this evolution. Evolution happens over time like decades, centuries maybe not as long as a century but it definitely doesn’t happen overnight!

Thanks,
Hanin
