Noa’ia Kiwi Can! 🥝

Kia Ora!

Today, I will be sharing my experience from our Kiwi-Can session last Friday. I will be walking you through what we did, the topics we discussed, and our final point score for the day. For those who might not know, Kiwi-Can is a fantastic programme that focuses on teaching us about respect and positive values.
The moment we stepped into the hall, Our Kiwi-Can leaders for the day were Here and Val. Once we sat down at the mat, a few volunteers stood up to lead us in a lively mili-mili. Our main theme for this term is integrity.

For both juniors and seniors in Edmund Hillary, integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Our featured country for the week was Rotuma. I had actually heard of it before and knew their traditional greeting, “Noa’ia”. I
t is fascinating yet a bit sad to note that only about 2,000 people are estimated to live on the island itself, as most Rotumans reside in Fiji.
Our first game of the day was “Silent Cones.” The goal was to choose one of four corner cones and avoid getting eliminated for making too much noise. I made it right to the end and almost won this thrilling game, which was a massive amount of fun. Afterwards, we gathered back together to tackle our discussion topic.

Our energy was overflowing, feeling just like a glass being refreshed by a waterfall of ice-cold drinks. We focused all our attention on answering the leaders’ questions, brainstormed thoughtful responses, and talked about the funny yet very real consequences of our actions in the everyday world. Did you know that while 88% of adults globally feel they are treated with respect, statistics show that number sits at 68% for women and 76% for men?

Next up was a classic game of “Noughts and Crosses,” but with a twist. We physically acted as the X’s and O’s in a high-stakes showdown of boys versus girls. It was the ultimate battle, and the score stayed incredibly close the entire time. It was an absolute blast, but the girls managed to take the crown in the end!
To wrap up our session, we played one final game called “Master.” In this game, you get to travel “around the world” by competing head-to-head to answer trivia questions. In conclusion, our reigning master of the day was Hailey.
Overall, I had an absolute blast during this Kiwi-Can session, and we walked away with a fantastic total of 91 points.
How do you show respect and integrity in your daily life?
