Animals at the Blaketown Lagoon

Animals at the Blaketown Lagoon

Question: What types of animals can we find at the Blaketown Lagoon?

Research: My research told me that there are Eels, Crabs, White Herons, Pukeko, Flounder and other types of fish, Flat worms, Black swans and Canadian Geese at the Blaketown Lagoon.

Hypothesis: I think I will find different types of crabs other than mud crabs, I think I will also find some snails and slugs. I think I might just find a little crab trying to pinch the bottom of my shoe.

Experiment: The tools that we used were a shovel, skipping rope, a stick with a net and a bucket. We used the net to find seaweed and shells in the water. We found three shells and two rocks with seaweed. We tried everything to find more creatures but there was no luck.

Results: Out of all the creatures and things we could have found, we found one small crab, three shells and two rocks with seaweed on them. It was hard working in the hot sun and trying not to let the water touch our shoes. There was only one crab and one of the shells were broken so we tried to find more shells. We didn’t find any pukeko, White Heron, Eels or Flatworms and I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t find any of them.

Conclusion: It was a really nice walk there, the sun was gleaming and the cold water was cooling my feet. We were so happy and exhausted, we tried to build a drainage system so that the water didn’t flood our hole that we made to find out what was under a big mossy rock. It didn’t go well, but after we found five things we were able to move our spot. We kinda stole someone else’s old spot which had a better drainage system than ours. Then we stayed there for a while trying to find more things, but we didn’t have enough time. We were called back because we had to pick up trash. After all that, it was time to walk back to school and our time at the Lagoon was over.

My next investigation will be: How many drops of water does it take to make a whole sheet of paper wet.
