A Tail Of Greed
Sir Barks-a-lot was a wealthy dog. He lived a life of bliss. Full of glistening chandeliers, cakes ten stories high, a barrel full of many beers, twenty meals of kai. He held a cane, and a top notch brain firmly in his head. The pooches’ bark was as good as Rhianna, and his moves as slick as Madonna. His vest was from the Gucci collection, and his hat from Chanel was a custom invention. His fur was groomed and cut by the hour, his tail wagged with controlled power.
He was owned by the king, of Beijing. The king was old (unlike his dog) and he was very close to death. He left his large fortune to Beth, his daughter. Didn’t even think about his trusty sock sorter. Barks-a-lot was peeved, so he hid a paper in the King’s sleeve.
‘Beth didn’t even come for Christmas’ thought Barks as he went to do his business.
The paper was from Beth, informing the King of her engagement to Lethe, a man in which the king hated to death.
The King found the paper, and believed it straight away. He wouldn’t have thought for a minute his dachshund had a say. That’s why she wasn’t there on our merry holiday, the King thought.
Barks wandered into the King’s room, a gloomy, sorrowful shadow turned his head, Barks could immediately see the tears rolling down his cheeks, and dripping onto his bed. No, what have I done? Barks thought.
‘It’s no use, Beth’s my only heir, I may as well give it to Cousin Donald, I’ll die in despair.’ Sighed the King, smiling a little. Barks jumped onto the bed and snuggled in, he’d been so selfish, the King dying wasn’t a win. Good dogs don’t want their owners dead, whimpered Barks, his eyes turning red.
‘Your not a bad dog’ said the King, ‘You just did a bad thing’. What, how does he know!
Barks squawked like a crow. The old man had seen right through his plan! ‘I think Barks-a-lot forgot, about the bell the size of a dollar attached to his collar’ chucked the King. Oh No! Am I gonna have to sleep in a kennel like a farm animal, any chance of not becoming a cannibal worried Barks.
Without knowing Barks and King had an in-depth conversation, and together they decided that Beth should lead the nation. The King no longer cared for money and gold, he only wanted to cuddle and hold Barks.
Till the last second Barks and the King were together. Neither of them ever felt better. They cared for each other when under the weather. So when the time came for the King to kick the bucket, Barks was there holding his Muckets.
Epilogue:
Together a pair, together as one, until the end has begun. Barks and King, shoe and sock, every tear a pure drop. Barks will live on, when the King is gone, and when the time comes, they’ll meet again, reunited in heaven.
