Lights, Music, Dance! 🕺🪩

Hola,

Last night 25/6/2026 at Parakiore, the Year 7 and 8 students competed in a dance competition called Dancing Like the Stars! It was really fun and worth the time, if I had the chance to perform again I most definitely would!

Luckily, two professional dance tutors named Chris and Lisa taught us lots of circus skills, stunts, and tricks twice a week. If you’re wondering what style of dance we performed, it was circus! At first, I was really nervous, but after watching the other schools perform, I started to feel more confident, excited, and eager to get on stage.

My favorite dance was Linwood Avenue’s performance. They performed an incredible hip-hop routine that was full of energy from start to finish. Their teamwork, sharp choreography, and enthusiasm made their performance really enjoyable to watch. I also really enjoyed another school’s performance, which I think was Te Waka Unua. Their routine was creative, engaging, and performed with so much enthusiasm that it was hard to look away. Overall, every school performed incredibly well, and it was amazing to see the effort and talent everyone had put into their dances.

It was finally our turn to perform! After all of our hard work and dedication, we achieved all of our goals. The boys didn’t drop their diabolo once, the poi performers were on point and performed without any mistakes, and the hula hoop group did an amazing job.

After all the acrobatics had finished, it was the tumblers turn, that was my favorite part. Leila and Tegan were doing flips, Hugh stepped up and did a little spin, Isabel jumped into a split mid air, Andie-Rose, Saffron, and Elisa did carftwheels, while Meila did a front wheel walk over (I think thats what its called).

Have you used a diabolo or poi before?

What part of our dance did you enjoy most?
