DDA Assesment
- Introduction
This term we have been learning about Death, Dying and the Afterlife. We covered the day of the dead and Mexican traditions after death, differences between cultures death practices, a research task where we go to choose what country we learnt about when it came to death, we made a self care plan and how to support yourself and others when Grieving. We also learnt about the 5 stages of Grief and how to deal with it, the physical and mental process of dying and we watched the movie Coco.
2. How do you demonstrate respect towards others beliefs and how would that enhance your Hauora?
You should always respect people beliefs, for you would want them to do the same to you. If you respect people beliefs about Death, Culture and Grief, this can enhance you Hauora in many ways, for example, it can affect your Social Hauora because you would be willing to learn and respect the other cultures, which means you can bond with the person more. Your Mental Wellbeing can be enhanced because you’re learning more about other cultures, and that could shift your beliefs to something else, but you are also just learning more. This can also affect your Physical Wellbeing because you could go to funerals, wakes and death celebrations, try new food from other cultures, learn more about different cultures ways of physical care after death and it could help decide how you want to be after death, eg: Cremation, Burial, etc. This is a major way to impact your Spiritual Wellbeing because you are learning a lot about other peoples beliefs and maybe teach them about your beliefs, all because you respected their choices.
3. Why is it important to care for all 4 areas of Hauora during Change, Loss and Grief, how they can be affected and how to support them.
It is important because if one of your Hauora areas is weak, it can weaken the others too. For example your Taha Hinegnaro (Mental/Emotional Wellbeing) is low, then it could cause your Taha Tinana (Physical Wellbeing) to weaken alongside it. Your Taha Tinana could weaken by being in a state of Grieving and not going out, eating or moving around. Your Taha Wairua can be affected by people you love dying, and you could start to not believe in your spiritual/cultural beliefs anymore. Taha Hinegnaro (Mental Wellbeing) can we affected by similar things to Physical Wellbeing, but you could also fall into a state of depression and not want to go out, which leads to how it can affect our Taha Whanau. (Social Wellbeing) It can affect it by not going out, not socialising and cutting off friends because you want space to Grieve. But how can we support this? We can support this by looking on the bright side, using a self care plan, like we made in health and talking about your feelings with someone. If you want to be alone, that’s totally fine too, just be safe about it. Heres a self plan I made in Health:
If change, loss of grief happened.
Who I would tell first… My parents/friends
Who would I want a hug from… Family
Who I would want to sit quietly with…Myself
Who I would want to talk with…My parents
Who I would want to not be around…Loud/Annoying people
What food I would want…Candy/Fruit
4. Research task, pick a topic.
I chose Cultural Traditions and I am doing Spain, because I already know a lot about it.
5. Explain what it is about.
My chosen topic is about Spanish traditions after someone passes and their beliefs around death.
6. Research and present links to support your points.
