How do bees communicate?

One of the most interesting ways bees communicate is using the waggle dance. When a worker bee finds a good source of food, such as flowers with lots of nectar and pollen, it can return to the hive and perform a special dance. The dance gives other bees information about where the food can be found.
The direction of the dance helps tell the other bees which way to fly. The bee also changes the dance depending on how far away the food is. A longer part of the dance can mean that the food source is farther away.
Bees also communicate using sounds and vibrations. Bees can make different sounds by moving their wings and bodies. These sounds and vibrations can give other bees information about what is happening inside the hive. Bees might use vibrations when they are working together or responding to changes in their colony.
