Science – Friction experiment

Aim: To investigate the relationship between wings size and drag.

Equipment:

-Stopwatch

-4 paper helicopters (opposite page)

-a paper clip

-scissors

-metre ruler

Method: 1. Cut out and assemble the four helicopters shown on the opposite side. Attach the paper clip to one of the helicopters.

2. One member of your group holds the helicopters at the height of 2 metres.

3. On the count of three, the person holding the helicopter drops it down, while another member of your group times how long it takes for the helicopter to hit the floor.

4. Record your results in the table below

5. Repeat each drop three times.

6. Repeat steps 2 – 5 using the other helicopter models.

Hypothesis: Personally, I think the helicopter with the smallest wing span will drop to the ground fastest.

Friction Expriment!

What is friction? Friction is a form of resistance acting upon an object.

What experiment are we doing? Make mini helicopters and drop them from a high place, record the time of when they reach the ground and then investigate why.

Aim: To investigate the relationships between wing size and drag.

Equipment:

  • Stopwatch
  • 4 paper helicopters(opposite page)
  • A paper clip
  • scissors
  • Metre ruler

Method:

  1. cut out and assemble the four helicopters at a height of 2 metres.
  2. on the court of three, the person holding the helicopter drops it while another member of your group times how long it take for the helicopter to hit the floor.
  3. Record your results in the table below.
  4. Repeat each drop three times
  5. Repeat steps 2-5 using the other helicopter models

Hypothesis: I think the helicopter with the smallest wing span will be the fastest as it catches less friction as it falls. The one with the largest wingspan will likely fall slower than the rest because of the amount of friction or air resistance it catches.

Helicopter drop experiment (sci)

Hello, welcome back to another blog post, for the past few days in science we have been doing an experiment on dropping handmade helicopter things, and testing the size of the different wing spans. There were 4 different wing spans 3,4,5 and 6  I was expecting the smaller the wind the faster it would fall. They were made out of paper with a paper clip down the bottom.
Our results were not what I was expecting, I was expecting it all to go up but the first 3 went up but the last one went down, If you want to see my results they are down below.

Thank you for reading my blog post, bye.

Friction experiemnt

Hey guys

We are going to be doing an experiment in Science

Aim: To investigate the relationship between wing size and drag.

What is friction? Friction is a force that acts against the motion of an object.

What experiment are we doing?

  1. Cut out and assemble the four helicopter shown on the opposite page. Attach the paper clip to one of the helicopters.
  2. One member if your group holds the helicopter at a height of 2 metres.
  3. On the count of three, the person holding the helicopter drops it, while another member of you group times how long it takes for the helicopter to hit the floor.
  4. Record your results in the table below.
  5. Repeat each drop three times.
  6. Repeat steps 2-6 using the other helicopter models.

Hypothesis: I think the helicopter with the bigger wing is going to take longer to land

friction experiment

  1. what is friction? a force that give you more grip
  2. what experiment are we doing we are making helicopter
  3. hypothsis based on friction/drag which helicopter will be quickest to fall to the ground  which will be slowest the one with the small wing will hit the ground fast and the on with the bigger wing will hit the ground slowest

what is friction? 17/5/24

Hello and welcome to my blog today I’m going to be explaining what friction is and what things you would want more and what you would want it less on but first what is friction?

well friction is the resistance on an object that one surface encounters when moving over another for example driving a car the friction is what makes your wheel spin and what gives you the grip to stay on the road or when you catch a ball the grip on a ball allows you to catch it easier but less friction can also be good on things like a slide less friction allows you to go way faster which is much more fun than going slow.

In class today me and my classmates will make 4 paper helicopters to test friction and what it will do to our helicopters.

following these instructions

  1. cut and assemble the four helicopters shown on the opposite page. attach the paper clip to one of your helicopters.
  2. one member of your group holds the helicopter at a height of 2 meters.
  3. on the count of three the person holding the helicopter drops it while another member of your group times how long it takes for the helicopter to hit the floor.
  4. record your results in the table below.
  5. repeat each drop three times.
  6. repeat steps 2-5 using the other helicopter models.

hypothesis:

I feel like since my luck is bad our helicopter will have a bad result exp bad time or breaking.

Paper Helicopters Experiment – Physics

Today in science we made paper helicopters, to see the relationship between wing size and drag and see their drop speeds.

Aim: To investigate the relationship between wing size and drag.

Equipment: Stopwatch, 4 paper helicopters (opposite page), a paper clip, scissors, meter ruler.

Method:

1. Cut out and assemble the four helicopters shown on the opposite page. Attach the paper clip to one of the helicopters.
2. One member of your group holds the helicopter at a height of 2 metres.
3. On the count of three, the person holding the helicopter drops it, while another member of your group times how long it takes for the helicopter to hit the floor.
4. Record your results in the table below.
5. Repeat each drop three times.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 using the other helicopter models.

With different sizes of wing span (cm) and falling times (s), there will be 3 times on each other kind of helicopter, and the average time they dropped at.

Helicopter 1
3cm | Time to fall: 1.31, 1.09, 1.03 | Average Time: 1.14

Helicopter 2
4cm | Time to fall: 1.13, 1.5, 1.22 | Average Time: 1.28

Helicopter 3
5cm | Time to fall: 1.34, 1.47, 1.28 | Average Time: 1.36

Helicopter 4
6cm | Time to fall: 1.59, 1.5, 1.34 | Average Time: 1.48

Summary:

When we dropped paper helicopters with increasingly larger wing spans, we observed some interesting results. As the wing spans increased, the helicopters exhibited slower descent rates and longer flight durations. The larger wings seemed to generate more lift, allowing the helicopters to stay airborne for a longer period of time. It was fascinating to see how the simple adjustment of the wing span could have such a significant impact on the flight characteristics of the paper helicopters. This experiment provided a great hands-on demonstration of aerodynamics and the principles of flight.

Term 2 week 3

17.5.24

Hello , Today I will be reflecting on how my week went.

What went well this week?                                                                                                                                                                          In science for Thursday I was so happy because I was the only one finished and the only on that was getting a move on, so when I was done I was awarded with  5 stamps, and free time 🙂 ( for period 4 we work we were doing was putting our own finger prints  on a piece of paper but we were not blogging because it was personal.  On Period 5 we were working on blood splattering within different heights and different movements, We used water and red paint not real paint. Then we finish 2 conclusions.

What’s something that challenged me this week?

In Maths we were learning something new so I looked at the example to get an idea so I know what I was doing. Later I was getting a move on. Soon later I went to go check my answers but it was completely wrong ( because apparently it was not really showing me what I had to do to find the answer. )

What was something I was able to control?

In PE I was playing football inside the GYM,  At this time I was a golly soon I had to kick the ball way from the goal and then I was going to kick the ball hard but then I was probably going to slip so I in-between soft and hard.

What was one new thing I learnt this week?

In Maths I learnt Area and perimeter.

Reflection Week 3 – Term 2 ✧˖°🌷📎⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚

Hello everyone who is reading this! Today I will be reflecting on my week. It’s currently Week 3, and I’ll be telling you about my week! Hope you enjoy ! 🧸ྀི

What went well this week and why? ִֶָ𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָ🐇་༘࿐

Something that went well this week was playing Netball. Though we lost, it went well because of our clear communication, good sportsmanship, and just having fun in general. We lost a 8-6, very close to winning but not enough time.

Something that challenged me this week 𝄞⨾𓍢ִ໋

Something that challenged me this week is Literacy. I was writing about ’Why we need sleep?’ And I was researching about it, and I had to research about it, of course. I kept on asking some questions like, why does our mental decline if we don’t get enough sleep? I was studying about the brain, body, etc.

Was this something I was able to control? 𝜗𝜚

This was something I was confused about, I wouldn’t exactly say this was something I was able to control, but it also wasn’t a major problem. I could still write what I learned. Overall, I would say it was a middle-ground, being able to understand but confused as well.

One thing new I learned this week (❀❛ ֊ ❛„)♡

One thing new I learned this week was I should go out of my comfort zone to try certain things. For example, I played Football / Soccer for P.E this week, I always told myself I disliked the sport, but when I had to play it, it was quite fun! Playing with other people, having good teamwork, not dragging each other down.

My goal for next week ❀˖°

My goal for next week would be getting better at communicating in P.E., asking for the ball, cheering them on, etc. I would like to improve on it.

✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶ ✶⋆.˚꩜ .ᐟ˙⋆✶

In conclusion, I enjoyed this week. Playing sports, P.E., hanging out with friends, etc. Thank you for reading this, have a great rest of your day! ‧₊ ᵎᵎ 🍒 ⋅ ˚✮

Term 2 week 3 reflection

This week was an okay week, during maths we learned about Perimeter and Area, and at cooking we cooked some toasties and it was actually my first time trying toasties which was exciting.

we had to grate some cheese and the team i’m in all wanted sauce so someone got some sauce as well, while we did all that some bread was baking in the oven. to dry it out so that the sauce wouldn’t seep into the bread making the bread all soggy.

when the bread was done, we took it out from the oven and spreaded some tomato sauce on the bread with a table spoon, then, we sprinkled on some cheese will sharing it fairly with the rest of the team.

and then we put it into the oven again and the cheese started to melt and the whole kitchen started to smell like bread and cheese.

this week was fun.

Weekly Reflection

Week 3 Term 2

As part of our Wānanga activities this term we are going to reflect on our learning across all our subjects.

Reflecting is a great way to think back about our learning and celebrate the things that went well and look at the things that might not have gone so well and make goals for the following week.

This is my week that was amazing. It was amazing because everyone (including me) was happy. I was kind of upset that we only get to do music once this week, but thats alright.

What went well this week and why?

During interval, the Filipino girls were practicing to dance and some of us were singers that were practicing singing. We were all in the auditorium. I was one of the singers, while me and the other singers were practicing, the dancers and other boys clapped, but we were confused on who or why they were clapping for. That was until interval ended and it was time for class, Riamme told me they were clapping for us. I was happy and surprised at the same time and I said that they dance very gracefully as a compliment back.

Something that challenged me this week was:

The singing during interval and making Nachos during cooking.

This challenged me because:

Because me and my group at to harmonize together and practice the lyrics little by little. There were also a couple slightly high notes we had to hit, so it was quite challenging.

Making Nachos during cooking was quite challenging for me, because we had to cook and wash the oily pan without the dish brush which was quite frustrating since I was the one washing them.

One new thing I learnt this week was:

How to make Nachos.

My goal for next week is:

To practice harmonizing daily.

What went well this week and why?

This week went well because we finally finished our Anzac Day works.

Something that challenged me this week was:

Something that challenged me this week is researching about Captain Cook and New Zealand histories.

What is something I was able to control?

I was able to control this because with a lot of practice I learned the dance moves.

One thing I learnt this week was:

What I learned this week is about New Zealand history.

My goal next week is:

Finishing my work.

Reflection Week 3 Term 2

Hi everyone, today I will be talking about my reflection about my third week of term 2.

What went well this week is got chosen to represent my school in Hockey. We had a trials and got chosen. This week goes well not that just because of that but getting better with these subjects and having a better relationship with my new classmates.

Semoething challenged this week is my sport hockey because we have to show how hardworking we are and everypody deserves to get chosen. Other thing that challenged me this week is Dance, like what I said I’m still learning to be better at it.

Something that I was able to control is the hard questions in Maths.

New things I learned is things I didn’t know in hockey before.

My goal for next week is to be better in Textiles.

Reflection week 3 – John Jrd

Kamusta my name is John, and today i’m gonna share my perspective of what happened to me in the past week on Hornby High School.

On Monday, we went to the gym for physical education. We get to pick sports between benchball or football. But the girls picked benchball. All though the girls picked football, I still respect their opinion and have fun on the gym. We won because we got the good people.

On Tuesday, we also did PE but its now football. It was pretty fun but I got subbed for like 5 minutes so it I had to watch my team play. I  also slide tackled Riley, but I didn’t got a red card.  The good people on my team: Ethan, Renz, Jhersea. We had a tie 2 – 2. The good people in their team was Lucas, Shikaya, Riley, Airmano. We had the same amount of people as the other team.

On Friday, which is today. We had Wananga, Maths, Dance, Textstyles 2x.

This is my week that was: really good so far.

What went well this week and why?: I really liked this week because there was no school on Thursday.

Something that challenged me this week was: nothing at all  challanged me this week as I have learnt how to do measurement

This challenged me because: like I said before nothing is challanging

One new thing I learnt this week was: I learnt the formula for getting the area of a shape

My goal for next week is:  to learn something new
