Masterpiece pizza’s
Yesterday, Kopa Whā made delicious thin-crust pizzas! First, we spread tomato paste over our thin pizza bases. Next, we added grated cheese, pepperoni, and shredded chicken before sprinkling a layer of cheese on top. Finally, we cooked the pizzas in the air fryer for 10 minutes. They turned out hot, crispy, and delicious!
Making a video in Cava!
This week we tried Canva for the very first time. Our mission was to build awesome, action-packed mini-movies recapping everything we did during our week!
At first, it felt a little intimidating. But as soon as we started clicking around, our screens burst into life. We unlocked four brand-new digital superpowers:
- Picture Power: We learned how to search for insert images straight into our video slides.
- Words on Screen: We typed out titles and captions.
- Colour Explosion: We learned how to splash vibrant colours onto our screens and swap font colours so our words really popped.
- The Layering Trick: We figured out how to move elements forward and backward so photos didn’t accidentally cover up our text!
We have to be honest—it was actually pretty tricky at first! But we didn’t give up. We tried out new ideas, helped our classmates, and persevered until our frames looked incredible.
We took our learning and creating and made them into digital masterpieces! We can’t wait to explore Canva further and share our mahi with you.
Multiplication Wizards
Whaea Emma’s Pangarau rōpū have been exploring multiplication through making groups and connecting this to our skip-counting knowledge. We have worked with equal groups, repeated addition, number lines, and arrays. Yesterday, we practised our multiplication outside using chalk and bark. Whaea Emma gave our groups a multiplication question to write down, and then we had to solve it in our groups. We used circles to show our groups and the bark to show how many things in each group. Then we calculated our answers. Do you like our mahi?
Watching a Play – Grease
One of the Highlights of Our Term
One of the highlights of this term was going on a trip to watch the live play Grease! We all travelled by bus to the theatre to watch the show. When we arrived, we had to wait for a little while as the actors and crew were getting ready.
The girls travelled on one bus with Mrs Pandey, while the boys travelled on the other bus with Mrs Hirst. Soon, it was time for us to go inside the theatre. We all sat in rows and watched the amazing performance.
Although the show was quite long, we had lots of fun watching it. We enjoyed seeing how each character had a special part to play and helped bring the story to life.
A big thank you to Whaea Saane for organising this special trip and giving us the opportunity to watch a live theatre performance. It was a wonderful experience that we will remember! 
Coding Experts in the Making
Kia ora anō e te whānau,
Rūma 1 have been learning how to code, with Whaea Monika, by using simple but effective algorithms. They have learnt the importance of paying attention to detail and being descriptive with their language/ words (in turn becoming the algorithm).
Our tamariki also learned how to “debug” their algorithms too which means to “fix” their code if there were directions or instructions that needed fixing.
It has been enjoyable to watch our tamariki explore offline, online, and physical Bee-Bot coding.

Our Book Week Character Parade was full of fun, excitement, and amazing costumes! It was wonderful to see our students dressed as their favourite book characters and celebrating the joy of reading. Thank you to our wonderful whānau for helping make PBS’s first Book Week such a special and memorable celebration!

Fraction Fun!
This week, room 17 has been working really hard on adding and subtracting fractions. We have had a go at mixing denominators, which was tough! We worked on some word problems, and had a go at using some materials around our classroom to try and help us solve it. We have almost mastered this skill with a common denominator, and are getting better at reducing fractions and finding whole numbers when the numerator is higher. It has been some awesome learning, and the kids have worked SO hard! I am incredibly proud of all of them, and the excellent learning that they have been a part of!

As part of our Book Week celebrations, our students enjoyed some special buddy reading time together! It was wonderful to see our older and younger students sharing their love of books, reading stories together, and building connections across the school. 
A big thank you to our reading buddies for making this such a fun and memorable experience!
Whaley good time!
Project Jonah came to NBC and filled the hall with a giant whale. We learnt about migration, feeding and many other things. Then we got to go inside the whale and see how it ticked. An interesting experience indeed.
Fractions Term 3 (files to be embedded)
This term we have been learning about Fantastic Fractions.
We completed a rich task where we had to identify a missing number. This was tricky and we needed lots of chat and working out time to help us solve the problems. Even Mrs Creagh needed help to solve one….

Celebrating Tongan Langauge Week
I see people singing and dancing on the beaches. I can see fish in the sea and I can see the crabs. I want to swim with the whales. When I go to Tonga, I am going to have lots of fun.

I think everyone should visit Tonga because there are lots of little shops down the road and they are really cheap. You can swim with the whales in the sea. It will be so fun. Tonga has their own King. It has beautiful beaches and lots of yummy food. The people of Tonga are friendly and you can see them dancing and playing drums and dancing. I really want to visit Tonga.
