This week, Room 6 Literacy has been learning about Matariki. We learnt about each star, and the significance each star holds in. the Māori culture.
Our task was to create a Matariki scene, what we would see in the sky. On our stars are symbols that we think each star represents. Then we glued the stars in the position where they would sit in the sky.

Task Description:Today i have completed my task for matariki we had to write 3 – 5 sentences for each slide and at the second to last page i had to sing the matariki song off by heart and put onto my work.

This term in english class, we have been learning about film techniques; specificly camera angles, colour, and costume.
My teacher knew that the movie “Top Gun:Maverick!” would be a good example of these, so my class and I have reveiwed some of the camera angles used (I specificly got mine from the first scene).

In Term 2 our school wide theme was called ‘Changes Matter’ and the Focus Question in Team 4 was ‘How do changes to materials occur and why? What are Physical & what are Chemical changes? Team 4 conducted experiments and learnt about how a state of matter changes from one state to another (e.g. liquid to a solid). Students created animations using an online animation programme called Photopea to share their understanding of the topic.

McKenzye here with another blog post but this blogpost is about my Te Tuhi Art Gallery trip.
We learnt about Climate change and how it was effecting our planet.
Did you know that the sea levels rise up 1.5millimeters every year!
After we learnt about climate change we had to make an object that would help a natural distaster be easier to take care of.
For example floods, you could make a sucking device that would suck up all the water on the roads.
For my art piece I chose to make a turtle that would help with the plastic in the ocean.
Its name is “The Clean Green Turtle.
We also had to label all the important parts of your art.

WE DID IT!!!
This term we have been reading so many books! It has been such a special ride and we have enjoyed every minute of it. Our teachers introduced a new program at our school called Reading Degree. You are to read a certain amount of books and complete activities related to the books you read to show your understanding. The higher the order of degree, the harder and increasing number of books to read aswell as activities to complete.
For alot of us here in K15, we have different reading levels. Some are quite strong readers and some are still improving. But the best thing about reading degree is seeing everyone so into the reading moreso than other terms. I think it is because we have something to aim for such as our degrees. It has been so good to read books more often than I usually do.
We had a graduation ceremony in Term 2, Week 10. We even had our own caps! The different colours representing the different degrees. A definite highlight for most of us in K15 was the march. The whole school, staff and parents clapped for us as we marched around the school. The ceremony was memorable but what topped it off was the throwing of our caps to celebrate our Reading Success!
Yesterday on June the 28th my school Wesley intermediate had a trip to the Q theater in the city.
At approximately 9:45 AM all of the classes met up together in the hall to talk about the expectations we have to follow during the show. When the meeting was finished class by class entered the bus, there was 3 buses all together when we got onto the bus I was so tired and bored so i closed by eyes for 2 seconds, but when i opened it suddenly we were already at our destination.
( At The Theater ) We hopped out of our buses and walked the rest of the way. We sat in the lounge and mixed with the other classes again, I found it pretty loud because of how basically everyone was talking and shadow boxing. 2 other schools arrived and waited in another area of the lounge, that’s when the teachers gave us the signal that we could go into our seats. Wesley Intermediate got to sit in the ‘God Seats’ and the ‘Rangatira Gods’ which were the highest seats on a block U balcony above where I was sitting. My favorite part was when Neil one of the main characters said “I’m so happy I could kiss you!” to Zara, one of the other main characters, it’s my favorite because heads turned to other people and others looked shocked and suprised. Sorry about the lack of photos. It did not let me upload it.
We watched two videos about Judaism (the Jewish Religion) and the Jewish people. Some things I found out were the history of Jews and what each of the Mitzvahs are and more of the rules and Jewish practises.
One thing I thought was interesting was that Jews don’t mix dairy and meat. The reason for this is that they don’t want you to accidentally cook children in their own milk.
I would like to find out more about the history and origin of Judaism.
