In Room Six, we have been using the Māori Minute site to do Te reo mahi and homework. One of the things we do is read, record, and complete the mahi that comes with it. The mahi usually is a word search, unscramble, fill in the blanks, tracing the word, arranging it from smallest to largest, and connecting the words to the same word.

I found it difficult to complete the mahi because it hurt my hand when I had to copy and paste the answers and then change them over and over again.

I found it easy to do the recording because it is way easier and it is quiet.

This week, we have been learning to convert units of time, and we have finished the chapter, so now we are moving on to solving word problems. Soon, we will be working on word problems. I found it a bit hard, but I got all the way through the chapter, and I need to work on my division. My learning outcome is that I get times and addition.

This week, I have been learning fractions. Here are some answers for you to learn about.

What is a fraction? A fraction is a part of a whole number equal parts.

what dose denomanator tell us? How many equal parts in the whole.

what dose the numerator tell us? How many equal parts we are using.

What is a mixed number: whole number and fraction.

What is an improper fraction? The numerator is bigger than the denominator.

How do you change a mixed number? Multiply the denominator by the whole number, then add the numerator.

How do you change an improper fraction to a mixed number? Divide the numerator by the denominator; the remainder is a fraction.

How do you find a common denomanator divided the largest denominator by the other denominator; multiply the numerator.

These are some answers that I learnt.

In Room Six, we have been learning how to subtract Mixed numbers. A mixed number is a whole number and a fraction, e.g 3 1/2, 4 2/5, etc.

Here is our example: 2 3/7 – 1 8/21. We first have to turn the mixed numbers into improper fractions; first, we multiply the denominator by the whole number {2×7=14} {1×21=21}, then we add the numerator to the answer {14+3=17} {21+8=29}.

Next, we find the common denominator: we divide the largest denominator by the other denominator, {21 divided by 7=3}, then multiply {3} by the numerator {17×3=51}. After that, you turn the {51/7} into {51/21}.

Finally, we subtract our fractions because the denominator is the same; we can simply subtract the numerator {51-29=22/21}, then we turn it into a mixed number because 21 can only go into 22 once; 22/21 becomes 1 whole, and the rest becomes 1/21, which means the answer is 1 1/21.
