ESM Shade House

Kia ora , Today Matua Jason and I took the first steps towards building a shade house in the Horticulture Block. This Shade house is going to be a prototype for a larger structure that will be built in term one by the woodwork and technology students.

Having shade for young plants is essential , especially at this time of the year when the sun is hot and water scarce.

I am going to get some supplies finish off this project in the weekend and have it ready for students arrival next week.

Ka pai!

Our Wellington Trip

At the begining of the year our 9R Social Studies class decided we wanted to take a trip to Auckland and visit places of interest from our studies. Then the Lockdown’s hit and we were grounded. When we got back in April I put it to our class that we go to Wellington at the end of the year. They all agreed and it was all on from that point onwards. Eight months of looking for money and booking everything. On Monday 16 Nov twenty students and five adults left our college at 6am. We bused to Auckland and caught our flight to Wellington. For some of our students this was the first time on a plane. Once in Wellington we headed for the National Library and had a planned educational tour.

That was fasinating and we got to see the original Treay of Waitangi. We checked into our accomodation at the YHA in the city which was perfect. On Tuesday we visited the Parliament Buildings where our Northland MP and past student Willow-Jean Prime met us and here is our photo with her. After Parliament we went onto Te Papa photo below, and had a great look around. On Wednesday our last day we took the students to Bowlarama for a fun morning before heading to the airport at 2pm and flying back to Auckland. The weather was a bit rough but the kids handled it well. Our driver was waiting and we headed straight back home to college arriving at 7.30pm. What an awesome trip we all had and what a great bunch of students to travel away with. Thank you 9R and our students from 9K & 9T you guys rock.

Moon poem

One of the challenges for the Summer learning Journey I’m doing is to  write a poem about going on the moon, I did a acrostic poem!

When we landed I felt a crash

All my crew mates went behind me

Like I imagined it was all bouncy

Knowing I was the first to set foot on the moon I was so exited

I Looked around

Nobody else is out yet

Going away from the rocket I Jump up and float in the air

Oh my it’s beautiful

Nothing is like this at home !

The ground’s getting further away
Hiding behind my friends with objects going everywhere
Even my friends are looking so happy

Making my way around I explore

On my way back I cant believe what I have seen

Oh it was so worth being away from home for so long

Now I wait to get home and tell everyone

Hi i’m doing a challenge for the summer learning Journey. This challenge is about the three things I treasure! I have chosen all these things because they are very special to me.

1. My old  teddy Sparkles I used to take to Montessori when I was little.

2. A little blanket I’ve had for ages that goes on the end of my bed.

3. My baby clothes in a  special box that I used to wear.

James Naismith

Hi, This is a summer learning journey challenge about someone who changed the world and how.

The person I choose is James Naismith because they invented netball. This is a really cool sport and  lots of people love it including me. I think netball gives people things to do and is good exercise for people it is also a team sport and helps people be social.

You can look up this person if you’d like to know more about the invention of netball.

Which picture is real or fake ?

Hi, I hope everyone’s having a good holiday! On this blog I’m doing a summer learning challenge about which picture is real and which is fake. This was fun to do and interesting as i’d have to look really closely and think about different pictures! The example underneath has the thing that makes the picture fake shown by a arrow and the real face has a green border.

From the quiz my score was 10/10 if you would like to try the quiz here’s the link,  Which face is real?.
