Last Friday in all rooms we had the science roadshow and it was amazing so here is my quick review plus i liked it all i reckon what i was expecting to see was more about how Ernest Rutherford invented that green stuff its in his den below the school if you go to the school in town but other than that i loved it  Thanks – Zavian

On the 19th of October 2026 me and my school New Brighton Catholic had a trip to the town hall to listen to the NZSO/ New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. The NZSO did a show here in Christchurch about feelings, mainly about the book (How Do I Feel) by Rebekah Lipp and illustration by Craig Phillips. They performed a variety of song that make a melody that describes each feeling and emotions. The songs they played made a tune and melody that floated through the hall and made it soothing calming and sometimes scary.

• Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 (specifically showcasing triumphant energy)
• Gioachino Rossini: William Tell Overture
• An Original Song: A custom piece composed for the show that the audience of students sang along with the NZSO
  It was such a  fun time and I had so much fun listening and connecting the music and feelings

Have you ever gone to a Orchestra performance and had to think about how it makes you feel.

Yesterday, I competed my very last time in athletics against my friends in school. We walked to the place behind Rawhiti domain where the long jump, high jump, shot put, and discus stations were all set up. The senior school split into our year levels.

First up, for my class of Year 8, we raced off with the long distance run or the 1500 metres. Even though I got disqualified by my mother, who was supporting me, I qualified for Zones which I will be competing against my friends from other schools in 2 weeks time. I found it hard, especially with breathing because my nose was blocked the whole race.

Next came long jump. Everyone had to sprint a runway before launching into sand. My friends qualified for that, beating the class by miles. At least I get friends to go to Zones with.

After that, we had high jump. I got eliminated on the first round, but another friend did really well and qualified for high jump! She jumped quite high, like a horse which she likes.

Finally it was morning tea. The fuel I’ve been waiting for all morning arrived into my tummy. The food was tasty and I was kind of hungry by then. I’m sure the throwing activities need extra fuel.

Time for shot put! First came the boys, while I rolled the shot put back to them. One of the throws made catching and stopping the shot put difficult, so the shot put ended up rolling over my finger. That gave my a minor injury, but it still hurt. I ended up getting 3rd, just out of the range for the qualifying place of top 2.

Last but not least, we had the discus station. I didn’t do well at all, with the disc slipping out of my hand during the throw and making the throw far away from the throwing range. I found the disc too big for my hand, so that’s why it kept slipping out.

To finish off the day, we sprinted hard. Before that though, we recharged our energy, ready to beat everyone else. I ate scrambled egg sandwich for lunch, gaining the mind of a scared chicken. I sprinted my chicken best. Chickens aren’t very fast, so I wasn’t very fast either. I ended up 5th, being kicked out of the relay team of 4. Next came the year 8 vs teacher race. I enjoyed that particular race, with many of my classmates and I beating our teacher! After our teacher was beaten up by our stampede, we got together as our house teams and did the last race for the day. The parents/teachers team won this 8 person relay race, with my team, Aquinas or yellow, coming second just after the parents/teachers team. I definitely enjoyed my last school competition at New Brighton Catholic School.

Hey, there I went to the NZSO  that sands for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra . I got to sit next to my friends Ava and hazel. There were some music I recognised like the creepy music that sounds like the violins were screaming  ( like when a movie shows you some one/something creepy ) . Have you gone to the orchestra ?

Hello everyone! Willa here! You wanna know my latest update? Well here it is! Today we went to an Orchestra! (And if you didn’t know, an Orchestra isn’t a band, though in a way it seems like it.) This has been my second time being there! The first time was when I went with my mum and friend to see this lady singing Taylor Swift songs, but I ´ m still not a fan. We had happy music, sad music and angry music. Its called, `How do I feel?´ It was amazing! Everyone sang it! We went on a bus! Sadly,  not the first class bus that we went on last time, but that ´ s okay. The place where they held the Orchestra was super duper big and fancy!

Today the whole school and I went to the Town Hall to see an Orchestra called symphony. And it was AMAZING! The songs were based off a book called how do I feel? Sadly we weren’t allowed to record the concert, but we didn’t have time to worry about that. My favourite feeling they did was shock. From a movie, you will recognise the song once you’ve heard it. My least favourite feeling was loneliness, because I don’t like being alone and it almost sounded sad. What is your favourite feeling?

Today the  hole school and other schools went to see Orchestras at the Christchurch town hull!

Hello! Today I went to the town hall to see an orchestra. The orchestra that we saw was called New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. (NZSO for short) We went on buses to get to the town hall. There was a dobble deccer bus but it sadly took a diffrent school. When we got there, there was a quiz on a big screen that was all about music. Now, I know what your thinking, WHEN AM I GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA! This is taking to long. Well, we welcomed the constructor on to the stage and then they did a few songs. Then at the end we even did our own songs!

Today we went to the town hall Orchestra there was so many different schools. There was a quiz on the TV I got all of them correct my favourite song was how do I feel my less favourite song was fear the song was a bit scary.But it was really cool that they know so many songs it was so great and good music my favourite instrument was the violin. I love how they worked all together the funniest thing is Chris when he does good actions!

Today we went to the NZ Orchestra there were a lot of different schools there I know one school called South New Brighten School There were  lots of people and there was a quiz on the TV before the NZ Orchestra started. The story was about feelings my favourite was when we sang how do I feel I was the sad group! I did not like when they played the shocked one I pretend to have a minion riding a pig my favourite interment was the violin!  

Today we went on  buses to see the Symphony Orchestra I am so excited to see all the music and stuff. When we got there we had to wait outside I was talking to elijah about what do you think is gonna happen he didn’t ever know  like me so when we got in there, and it started when Chris was talking about how they were  and when they did all the instruments i was so amazed.

Today we went to the town hall to see the NZ Orchestra. We got there on a bus. When we got there there was a tv that was saying questions about the Orchestra.There were questions like (how old is johns violin). It was 272 years old!!! That is crazy.When the Orchestra started there was a sad angry happy lonely and shocked emotional songs. Well the Orchestra did songs we were  doing actions to the songs.

Friday 17th, October 2026.

Today a very special person came upstairs to visit Ruma tekau and Kapa iwa, his name is Fr Michael Pui. He is the national director of New Zealand of The Pontifical Missions Society! He traveled the world to go tell students in schools about himself and TPMS .( The Pontifical Missions Society ) He went to the Philippines to go and visit a school that had half of the building gone. He has also met Pope Francis and Pope Leo. When he met Pope Francis that was when he anointed him National  Director of New Zealand. He was really cool and funny! I hope he comes back again to talk to us more.

Last week on sadly… The last day of Term 3, the whole school did fun activities and did the classic COLOUR RUN!! The colour run was soo fun to do! Just that some chalk powder got in my mouth, and it didnt taste pleasant… Also some colours got inside my shirt!! It felt so uncomfortable, and I still went in 2 more times the Colour Run! Anyways here are some photos of the colour run, you should do it with your family too!

Today we went to a since road show ( Kate and ) were the people that were teaching us all about since first we got to make a smaller  version of atom every one made it  we also got to keep them . Second we did lots of since with gravitate and magnet force  . Third we did lots with heat and we also saw liquored nitrogen . Last Miss Kenny had to lay on a periodic table. Here is a photo .

Hey, I have been to a really cool science Roadshow that had all sorts of cool things. Graham picked me to help him and I have got a video to prove it, ( it is a bit hard to hear, but if you’re wondering why I acted like someone farted the electricity is because it sounded like it!  ) . FUN FACT there is about 2 – 3 Billion atoms in one full stop WOW ! Bye

Today we got to watch a science show in the hall. It was super cool we made our own atoms we also saw Graham Touched Liquid nitrogen and then he poured it on a person called Jack he poured it on his hand only.

Today my class went to a science roadshow! It was led by a kind lady from the Arts Center called Katey and a gentleman called Graham from the University of Canterbury. The first thing we did was get a glad bag that had some things in it and then we sat down. While we were sitting Graham happened to be waiting for Katey so he showed us a bonus trick which was playing the violin with a small pole. Then Katey arrived, she introduced herself and Graham and she then put on a video explaining the Arts Center and how it used to be Canterbury College where Ernest Rutherford went to. After that Katey then told us that we were going to be making something with the gladbags we got earlier on as we entered. She taught us to make an atom, not a real one but a mockup version of one because you can’t see one in real life in the open unless you get a super fancy complicated one. Now it was time for Graham’s turn! He showed us tricks with all his cool gizmos. The first trick he showed us was a gravity trick where he put a ball over a leaf blower, turned it on and then it started flying. My friend Meila was a volunteer and she had to stand there in a big blue jacket, I didn’t quite understand the concept of her in the jacket but she did get a free periodic table of the elements so I guess it’s a bonus for her! He did many more tricks including liquid nitrogen but then you would be here almost reading a novel at this point… Overall my favourite part was when he poured liquid nitrogen on my friend’s arm Tegan. My teacher also sat on a bed of nails and my fellow classmate Luca stood on him!I really loved this experience and I am super grateful for the opportunity to go and learn about all these cool things. Today we got to go to the Amazing Science road show hosted by Graham and Katey! Katey taught us all about the New Zealander called Ernest Rutherford. He was an amazing person how mandged to split the atom and how he even managed to get on the 100 dollar note! Then they showed us some amazing Science, a lot baced on liquid nitrogen! Things like putting liuquid nitrogen in a air cannon!? Yes They did some crazy things! We then talked about magnets and how gravity works I learnt a lot in that 2 minutes I can’t even name all of them! We then went back to Ernest Walton! And learn’t about atom and how every thing is made of them, even you! Do you think that is crazy, it was all so cool but my favourite was all the luiqud nitrogen! I love that stuff it is pretty impresove that it can freeze anything!
