The Fantastic Circus Dance🎪☆

On Monday the year 7/8 went to stokes hall in New Brighton at 1:30 to start doing a dance you may have heard of its called “dancing like the stars” on the first day we did partner poses my partner was Zara the poses were fun but challenging like bunkbeds they were so awesome but we nearly fell we also did streachs then we walked back to school.

On Tuesday we went back and did these cool ribbon things you could swing them around and make dances with them it looked unreal then we swapped staions and went to deablos its kind of like a yoyo you roll it on the ground side to side then lift it up and pull the string you can even throw it up in the air and catch it! The last roation was hula hoops we swung them round our arms and used them like a normal hula hoop.

Here is a photo of practic.

Journey to dancing like the circus🩷🤡🤹🏻‍♀️

the beginning of my dance journey started on a random Monday at a circus hall in new Brighton. We walked to the hall from school and got there around 1:30, we learnt tricks and different partner poses.

On Monday we had to learn how to do different partner poses. We buddied up and had to try different poses with different amount of people. Like pyramids,  bunkbeds and weight balancing  and trust exercises.

Dancing like the stars is a show were people come to preform dances that they choreographed. We learnt how to use a diablo which is also known as a Chinese yoyo. We used flowy fabric that looked like water flying and we wove them around.

My favourite part was the pyramid because it was a lot of fun to learn and I got to be on top. Next week I think we will be focusing on acrobatics I can’t wait!

Have you ever used a hula hoop?

💃Dancing Like The Stars So Far ⭐

The last 2 days we had our first few lessons of Dancing like the Stars, for dancing like the we stars are doing a circus performance with hula hoops, Diabolo, circus poi’s and acrobatics. It’s going to look so cool.

For the first day when we got there we meet our instructors, Lisa and Chris. They run the circus and do after school lessons. Lisa and Chris showed us some partner tricks and we got into pairs and tried to do them, then we did pyramids that’s were we stacked on top of each other and made a pyramid, that’s what we did the whole time.

The second day we got there and we were told what we were going to do then we got straight to it. We were split into 3 groups and sent off to different stations, the first station was the poi’s. The poi’s are a black poi’s with a colourful ribbon on the end. The poi’s were so fun and they looked so cool, me, Lilia, Kiara, Despina and Zara all got in a line and started waving around the poi’s and we each took turns going in front and seeing how it looked and it look so cool!

The next Station was the Diabolo’s. Diabolo’s are a hour glass shape, they also come with a string attached to two sticks, that’s what you use to get the diabolo spinning. After you get the hang of it you can start to throw and catch them, I threw one and it nearly touched the roof.

The last station was hula hoops, Lisa taught us how to spin it on our hands and it was so fun. then we got some bigger hula hoops and played around with them for a bit then it was time to go.

Here are some Photos.

Whats your favourite type of dance? Let me know.

Circus ! 🎪

On Monday all year seven & eights went to the circus down in New Brighton. It took us about five minutes to get there, from our school.  When we got there, we were happily greeted by our circus instructors.  We were doing acrobatics. I thought acrobatics was going to  be hard! But surprisingly it was quite easy!  Circus is really cool, better then I expected it to be. Heres a picture of me and circus!

Have you been to circus?

The intermediates start of Dancing Like The Stars 🪩 🌟

Bonjour,

The lucky intermediates have gotten the opportunity to compete in a dance competition called Dancing Like The Stars! For dancing like the stars we will be circus dancing which made us all lit up in excitement with loads of ideas coming to mind.

On the first 2 days of term 2 we walked from school all the way to New Brighton Circus to practice and try little stunts. Which was really fun but difficult because of me and my buddies height difference. Our instructors are Lisa and Chris, they’ve taught us tricks we can do with poi, how to pick up a diabolo along with making it spin really fast and how to catch it, and lastly some hula hoop tricks.

So far I’ve really enjoyed everything, and I think our dance is going to come out great !

What type of dance do you enjoy?

🎪Circus Mayhem!!

Coming up the year 7/8s are going to do a dance competition between other schools called Dancing Like The Stars, the type of dance we have been practising is circus; thanks to Lisa and Chris – they have been the ones teaching us all. We walked from our school to the New Brighton hall and there is where weve done our lessons, so far we have only has two sessions but I think its going really well and we are learning heaps!

So far we have done Poi, Diabolo, Hula Hoops, And some things like Acrobatics.

Poi was really cool, we swung around this black rope with a poi on the end attached to a ribbon. It looked really cool as we swung it in circles and different directions really fast; it was definitely one of my favourites! We did tings like circles in front of us, beside us, above our heads; and criss-cross. My friends and I also got into a line and tried to make a ribbon wave effect, we got someone to stand in front and see how it looks and we were told to keep working on it because it looks pretty cool.

Next we did Diabolo – also called a Chinese Yo Yo. And its shape was like a hourglass, there was a string that was tied to two sticks that goes underneath the slimmer part of the hourglass shape. The first thing we learnt was to throw the Diabolo in the air and catch it. To do this you have to lift up the string, and thats what lifts the hourglass. For me, the right side was my dominate hand for this, and you pump your hand up and down – this makes the Diabolo spin; If you want your Diabolo to spin faster you wrap your string around the Diabolo while your pumping your hand. Once its going pretty fast your unwrap your string while continuing to pump your hand and you pull the string really tight really fast throwing it up in the air. To catch it you hold your string on and angle, so the slimmer part of the Diabolo lands on the string and slides down.

After that we went into hula hooping. The first thing we did was making the hula hoop go around our hand; I got most of the skills straight away because i did hula hooping alot as a kid. We circled the hula hoop on our hand going around our body’s doing criss crosses, above our heads; and to the side. After we did some throwing and catching with the person opposite us. The person I was with was Farrah, and we did pretty good in my opinion, throwing and catching on beat with ease. Later when we had done that we hula hooped around our waist, and our instructor Lisa told us that we could hoop easier around our waist if we move out hips back and forth.

Overall I think this is really fun and I cant wait to do it again next week.

What skill sounds the most fun?

What skill would you do?

Circus Practice for our show ⭐

For this term we are going to a hall every Monday and Tuesday learning how to do  different circus tricks. We are practising and learning to get up to doing a performance at dancing like the stars which is a contest between different schools. When we first got there, we got into pairs and did some poses which was pretty fun and I think that some of them we will be putting into the end result.

The next day we got into three different groups and went round different stations. There was poi scarfs, diabolo and hula hoops  they were trying to see who was best at what and what we need to focus on.

My favourite part was doing the different poses because it was a bit of a challenge and something to practice to get perfect at.

Do you like acrobatics?

💫🕺Dancing Like The Stars Practice💃🪩

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening

This term the yr 7/8’s are doing Dancing Like The Stars at the Circus in New Brighton with Lisa and Chris. We are learning how to do Hula Hooping, Diabolo, and Poi which we did with weights and ribbons. It’s a great experience so far and the Poi and Diabolo is super fun.

I hope that in the future we get better at Diabolo and Hula Hooping and start on the choreography of the dance. We will continue to improve on this and will (hopefully) have a great dance/circus act at the end of this term.

Have you ever done Diabolo, Hula Hooping or Poi, if you have what did you enjoy/not enjoy about it?

Dancing Like The Stars and Circus

Hello. for the past 2 days I have been learning to dance at the circus in New Brighton. It’s called dancing like the stars.

Walking to the circus wasn’t too far from the New Brighton Catholic school. It was only 850 meters.

When we got there we took off our shoes and jacket. It was more of a circus than dancing so that was good. I found out I was a natural at hula hoops because I play rhythm games on my pc.

I do have some future goals. I would like to do some more hula hooping and try my best.

hooping. As Well as practicing diablo

It was super fun and I am looking forward to doing more circus rather than dance because dance is a bit boring. I think I have to work on diablo. I also injured my tailbone on the first day. All together it was really good an I really enjoyed it. What is your favorite dance?

Dancing like the stars practise

The past couple of days all the year seven and eights have been going to a dance hall to practise for a show called dancing like the stars. We will be continuing to go to the hall to practise throughout the term. It is meant to be an acrobatics/dance show that we will perform at the end of the term. We have done quite a few things, we used things like diabolos and hula hoops. My favourite was the diabolo which is basically a big yo yo.

We have also done lots of balancing things, we did human pyramids, which is where 4 or 6 people stack up in a pyramid. And the bunk bed. Overall I think it was pretty fun trying out all of the different things we could do.

Have you ever performed in front of a crowd?

NBCś Journey through Dancing like the stars⭐🕺⭐

Kia Ora,

Week one term two and dancing like the stars practise has started. The Intermediates for NBC school have been invited to do dancing like the stars, and are practising circus🎪!

Each monday and Tuesday afternoon, we stroll down to the circus hall in new brighton. We meet with our instructors Lisa and Chris, then do some partner work, then did 3 different types of circus acts to figure out what each person is best at, and should do in the dance. The involved diabolo, poi and hula hooping. I was asked to do the last two.

We are learning about music, beats and keeping in time. Lisa has told us to count to 8 in our heads to keep up with the music. At the beginning, I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know anything about circus. But both instructors have been really encouraging, listening to us kids and helping all of us out.

Do you enjoy watching a circus act?

My kickoff of Dancing Like The Stars𓂃 ࣪🩰˖ ִֶָ ೀ

Dancing like the stars is this thing that you basically train to go in front of a stage and do all of this dancing.

Well, we didn’t do dancing; We did Circus which has multiple things like; Hoola hooping, Diablo and this thing that we wave around I forgot what its called. 🧍 Those are what we did and I enjoyed Diablo the most. 😊

On the first day of Circus, we did these buddy things but sadly I didn’t have a buddy for most of them. They are really cool though! 🤯

I’m not Really flexible so I couldn’t do much, I still had fun though. My favourite one was probably the one where we all stacked on top of each other!

There was another one where there was 3 on the bottom and 2 on the middle and one on top ! so 6 people stacking on each other!

I am really excited to improve on my tricks especially Hoola Hooping.

In conclusion Circ;  is extremely fun.

Dancing like the Stars 2026 – First Steps

For this amazing term, we have a cool program called Dancing like the Stars. It is when we train to perform skills that we learnt with an instructor with some music or a song. This year, we have a very different but special dance routine. Instead of just normal dancing like most other schools in most other years, we get to do circus as our performance! That also means a lot of skills, balance, control and training.

We only just started our first practices on Monday and Tuesday. Our first session was on Monday after lunch, walking all the way to the circus hall. To boost off some basic but important circus skills, we did lots of counterweight activities. Counterweight activities are when one shares their weight with another person, meaning safety and balance is very important here. Some examples of the counterweight that we did on the first day was a pyramid, consisting of 6 people. We got told that there may be more fun and complicated tricks later.

On Tuesday, we tested our skills whether we would best fit in hula hooping, diabolo, or poi. We split into smaller groups so that everyone had a turn at having things a go. I did the poi first, which was spinning and doing tricks with a piece of rope, a heavy pouch, and a coloured tail. Next for me was the diabolo, a piece of string attached to 2 sticks to keep spinning like a yoyo. Last was my favourite which was the hula hoops. I think I did best in hula hoops and I managed to pull off some simple tricks.

Our class goal is to be able to perform such cool acts for our final performance. There will hopefully be acrobatics and fun counterweight tricks, hula hooping, poi, and diabolos. I am looking forward to learning more complex tricks for our final acts with our fantastic instructors!

What suggestion would you add to our acts so that the outcome is the best?

My Holidays! 🐝˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚

I stumbled out of bed with my hair in my face. It was Saturday, me and Tia’s playdate ! So of course I had a nice hot shower, got dressed, dried my hair and brushed my teeth!

About an hour later Tia, her mum, her brother and her brother’s friend came and picked me up and took us to clip n climb. I did this timing climbing wall and I did it in 1 minute and 31 seconds. After we all finished we then went to The Palms.

Tia and I skipped inside and her brother and his friend came in behind us, we were told to go to countdown and her mum gave us 10 dollars each but Tia and I put our money together and had 20 so we got Nutella, strawberries and Mentos which were good and then we paid. We were well set for the movies with all our lollies.

We then went into Hoyts Cinema and watched Mario Galaxy. Tia and I hid under chairs and watched the movie which was awesome. Then we got creative and hid from her brother and his friend.

In conclusion I had so much fun with Tia and when I got dropped home I slept like a baby.

🎨Dying eggs with red cabbage and beetroot🥚

I died hard boiled eggs using red cabbage and beetroot first we chopped them then we boiled them and water to make natural dyes. the cabbage made a blue colour and the beetroot made a pinky red colour

Then we put the eggs into coloured water. we also added some elastic bands on the eggs for strips. we also added some vinegar to help the colour stick.

It was fun sing how each egg turned out differently. my favourite part was the surprise of the Colours!

what colour would you want to make?
