Improper and mixed Number fractions – ( Numeracy )

Kia Ora! Welcome back to my blog! Today was maths class and we learned about improper and mixed number fractions. Our teacher said we could work on converting fractions to decimals or changing improper fractions to proper ones. I thought it would be cool to learn about Improper and Proper fractions because we haven’t really gone into it much yet. Maths is always full of surprises and new things to know, and I am excited to learn about this more.

Improper Fraction –

An improper fraction is a type of fraction where the numerator (the top number) is equal to or greater than the denominator (the bottom number). Improper fractions can be converted to mixed numbers, which consist of a whole number and a proper fraction. For example, 7/4 is an improper fraction because 7 is greater than 4.

Proper Fraction –

A proper fraction is a type of fraction where the numerator (the top number) is less than the denominator (the bottom number). Proper fractions are commonly found in everyday maths problems and are an essential concept to grasp when working with fractions. For example, 3/5 and 1/2 are examples of proper fractions because in both cases, the numerator is smaller than the denominator.

Mixed Fraction –

A mixed fraction, also known as a mixed number, is a combination of a whole number and a proper fraction. It is written in the form of a whole number followed by a fraction. For example, 3 1/2 is a mixed fraction, where 3 is the whole number and 1/2 is the proper fraction part.

Today’s task –

Today we either picked the slide show we wanted and then worked through it. If we needed help we could have a 1 on 1 help with the teacher. I didn’t need help in the proper and improper. Because I watched the videos available and learnt how to answer the questions. This task was very fun and I want to learn more about proper and improper fractions.

Questions –

Have you learnt about proper and improper fractions?

Have you learnt mix fractions?

Would you like to learn more about this?

What’s your favourite thing to learn in maths?

What do you want to learn in maths?

Is maths your favourite subject?

Friction Experiments

  1. What is Friction? forse that resists motion of two contact areas.
  2. What experiments are we doing? today in class we are going to be dropping 4 different paper helicopters and drop them from two meters high while they are falling and see if the wider wing span stays longer in the air or the shorter wing span.
  3. Hypothesis: Based on fiction frag which helicopter will be quickest to fall which will be slowest.

Method :

Results:

Wing span Time to fall (1) Time to fall (2) Time to fall (3) Average time
3cm 1.37 1.26 1.15 1.26
4cm 1.16 1.10 1.16 1.14

Burger Reflection

Hello everyone,

Today I will discuss the burger competition our Home Economics class had last week. For today’s blog, we had to answer questions based on the competition.

  1. Identify the different ingredients you used to create color and how did it enhance the overall appearance of your burger? – We used some lettuce to give it a green texture and the bacon and the patty to contrast the vegetables. The sauce also added some colors as it was bright yellow both around the plate and inside the burger.
  2. What ingredients did you include in your burger to create texture and what was the effect on the product as you ate it? – The patty was crispy and the vegetables in the burger gave it more crunch. The buns were also toasted the buns in bacon fat which made the buns more crispy.
  3. Name two different ingredients you used to enhance the flavor of your meat pattie. – We didn’t use anything special apart from frying the pattie in bacon fat.
  4. Explain why you used these flavors? Eg pairing that goes together like mustard and hot dogs. – Eg pairing that goes together like mustard and hot dogs. Because we needed to change to beef and we didn’t know what to do so we just added random ingredients.
  5. What were you hoping the people eating your burger to experience?: think of sensory words – We were hoping that they would taste the bacon while also not forgetting about the pattie. We also wanted them to see the colorful side of the burger.
  6. What were your successes with your final presentation? – We got the burger done in time and we made it better than we expected. We also designed the plate with sauce which was good because the judges liked it.
  7. If you were to do this practical again what changes would you make if you had no restrictions? – We would attempt to make the chicken burger with the chicken breast.

Thank you for reading my blog post, I hope you have a fantastic day!

Improper and mixed Number fractions

Hello bloggers, in today’s numeracy class we had to recap about improper fractions and proper fractions. We did the recap on google slides. I had finished all the work apart from one which is what I am doing right now. I had to do this statement and write about this statement.
Statement
Here is the statement: I know how to complete proper fraction amounts. I’m also confident in working with improper fractions and mixed number fraction amounts’.
Writing
A proper fraction is when the bottom number is higher than the higher number, just like this 1/6. A improper fraction is when the higher number is higher than the bottom number, like this 8/3
