Anzac Day – from our window to the war memorial!

Last week, we learned about Anzac Day. We listened to stories and poems and reflected on the sacrifices made by so many. To bring our learning to life, we also created a beautiful poppy wreath, proudly displayed in our studio window.

Today, on Anzac Day, that learning became something even more special.

Early this morning, Zayieh and her family attended the Dawn Service in Cathedral Square, Christchurch. They laid our studio wreath at the war memorial. Seeing our work included in such a significant ceremony was incredibly powerful and something we will all remember.

A huge thank you to Zayieh and her family for suggesting this idea and for representing our class in such a meaningful way.

If you’d like to see this special moment, you can follow this link to watch the full service, or skip ahead to 1 hour and 14 minutes.

“We will not forget.”

Literacy- Influenza pandemic NZ

This is an article about NZ and Sāmoan history, and how they became independent.

On 7 November 1918, the ship Talune arrived in Sāmoa, carrying a heap of people with the flu.

Colonel Logan failed to quarintine the ship before they came in, so it spread ALL across Sāmoa.

Because of that, around 8,500 Sāmoans died, but Colonel Logan would not accept any of it was his fault. But surprisingly, it helped start the group called the Mau, a peaceful protest movement made by Ta’isi O.F. Nelson. After a long struggle, Sāmoa managed to become an independent country! This goes to show if you work hard through lots of struggles, it can come out good in the end!

What Have You Worked On This Week.

This week we learned about fractions and decibels in Pangarau/maths. I enjoyed doing maths because I learned heaps of things. One thing I’ve learnt in maths/Pangarau is milligram grams kilograms tonnes these are weights for things that are heavy and not heavy. The thing I enjoyed the most was Weights in pangarau/maths. What I would say to make people write is i would say its relaxing and I would say ‘’ I enjoy it’’ to make people do writing. But if it’s older kids then they might not agree to doing the work.

What I Have Learned This Week.

This week we were learning about polygons or 2d shapes in maths. We had been going in groups. It was the year 5s, then the year 8s, and the year 7s. Some of us that aren’t working with Matua Travis are on their oxford math books or on matfic.when it was our turn we were learning about polygons because we are having a post test about polygons and 2dshapes.a polygon has even side on ever side and same angles on every corner,we were also learning in oxford books about regular and irregular triangles. That was my favourite part. I am ready for my test and i don,t think I will get a 100% but I feel like I will get over 50%.

This Weeks Learning!

This week I have been learning about fractions and decimals.

I did not enjoy this topic because I personally thought it was extremely difficult, especially fractions because I didn’t understand anything about it .

But Matua Travis helped me understand what numbers meant.

Alongside fractions we learnt about weight.

We learnt about tonnes, milligrams, and kilograms. I don’t have much to say about this topic but I still enjoyed it.

I would like to thank you for reading my blog, and I have a question for you: how mush does a train weigh, tonnes kilograms or millograms?

A clock with no hands

 A clock with no hands

Into

A clock with no hands let me tell you how this useless thing can be useful.

Firstly a clock with no can be useful for a good way to

Leave school early so you do not have to do any school work or learn, run, read a book and much more so this is a reason for this useful clock.

Secondly you can use a clock with no hands for y

our students to learn to count to one to twelve and backwards  from twelve to one so this is anather reason so you can buy my clock with no hands.

Thirdly you also can use this to trick your teacher is class time. For example you say the time is three a clock and because there are no hands on the clock then she/he  will believe you so this is anather reason so you can buy my clock with no hands.

lastly you can also use the clock with no hands so your students don’t cheat in their test/exam for a question like a

clock question.so this is anather reason so you can buy my clock with no hands.

hope you liked it bye.

Navigation of the Stars

This week we learned about Kupe and how his Dad actually found New Zealand first but wanted to show it to the People in Hawaiki. I enjoyed that the most then all the other things we learned. One thing about this that I learned was that Abel Tasman almost found New Zealand before Captain Cook, So We would’ve been French then Pakeha, Personally I would rather be French then English even though I would be English either way. But now I’m going to tell how Kupes’ Dad found New Zealand. One day Kupes dad wanted to find something New, So he left Hawaiki and when on a boat to Rarotonga, following specific stars, But he already knew Rarotonga was there so he sailed further, following the stars until he got to Nuia, he also already knew that was there then he sailed further until he saw the tip of New Zealand Then he went back to Hawaiki to show his people.

Aroha And The Beating Drum.

What I worked on this week that I found interesting is a story called Aroha and the beating drum. It talks about her heart and Aroha asking questions to her koro. She asked her koro about what’s thumping inside her body when she runs around or does any sort of activity. When running around she puts her hand on her chest and she feels                                                                                                          something thumping inside her.

But she doesn’t know what it is so she asks her koro and he tells her that it’s her heart. When she finds out that it’s her heart she keeps asking herself a bunch of different questions about her body. I found that story very interesting because I learnt something new when reading that story about the heart. The part I enjoyed was actually reading the main story and learning more about the heart than I usually knew about the heart.

1 think that i learnt about the heart is it pumps 2,000 gallons of blood daily.

Week 1 Spider Man Story

Kia Ora this week we have learnt 2D shape for maths, Aroha story for reading, Te Whakatere Waka Maori navigation for Maori and Spiderman story for writing. Something extra that we did was our Haakinakina/Fitness. The subject I am writing about today is going to be the Spiderman story because that was something I have really enjoyed. First he asked us for a Kaupapa and someone said Sports then he asked us for a Character and someone said Spider man then he asked for a Location and I said space. Then he gave us a problem and asked for a solution and I said his friend helped him then he asked for a name for his friend and someone said Miles Moralis but Matua said that, that was too many Spider mans so he said his friend was a Maori boy named Rangi. Then I wrote a story about it. Here is the blurb:                                                                                                                                  Rangi has launched off and then he meets a medic who can help Peter Parker join them on a journey of untold mysteries and adventures.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       I think it is a really cool story and you should read it. Though as you read it remember it was wrote by an eleven year old.

MY 1ST WEEK OF SCHOOL TERM 2

In the first week of term 2 we have been doing stuff that is normal to every other day. On Tuesday we were doing hakinkina. We have to run around the track as many times as we can without walking or stopping just jogging/running. Then after that we did learning in our books and chromebooks. But the one thing I liked the most this week was aroha and the beating drum. It was where we learn about a girl that researches the heart and does running to see if her heart beats faster. Aroha had heaps of questions about what blood is made of and what does the heart do.

It was fun doing the aroha story. But what I didn’t really like was doing prisms and nets. We did it on Wednesday. It’s hard and I don’t know what they are. Matua also told us a story about Kupe and how he found New Zealand. But Kupe didn’t discover it. Kupe’s dad discovered it. And how he got to New Zealand and where he was from. He said he was from a place called Hawaiki.
