For the past few weeks, Te Ngahere has been learning ​about pests that can harm the ngahere/forest. Alongside with learning about the pests, our create task was to create 3 wanted posters about 3 different pest in NZ. The 3 creatures I made into a wanted poster were rabbits, possums, and ferrets.

Last week we made a video about possums. My group made a slideshow about what possum did to our Ngahere and what we could do to stop it. I hope you can learn something and also try help our Ngahere. here is our video hope you enjoy it.

The past few weeks, Te Ngahere has been learning about possums. I learnt how dangerous and harmful possums are to our forests. To show our learning I made a map to talk about possums here is my map.

For the past two weeks, Te Ngahere has been learning about possums. First we did a vocab activity, then a response to text and now a create task. My Create task is about the possum population increasing over time. It also has something to do with why possums were brought from Australia to New Zealand. Here is my Create task. Last week for panui we had to make a create based on the pesky possums in New Zealand.

We had to do a timeline based on when the possums were released and what damage they have done to our ngahere. We had to animate our slides with all of this stuff.

This week we read a new reading and made a create about it. If your wondering what the readings called it’s called the possum problem. If your wondering what it was talking about. It’s talking about what damages possums are doing to the forest in New Zealand. It’s also talking about what people are doing to reduced the number of possums in the New Zealand forest. Here is a map about where possums moved over the year.

This term Te Ngahere have been learning about possums and what they do to the ecosystem. What I learnt about possums were that they are marsupials that compete with native New Zealand animals for food. Another tithing I learnt is that possums ruin our forests because they eat all the foliage off the trees and they eat some of our native animals. For the create activity, we had to make a visual map that shows the possum population from 1837, to the current year. We also had to add some notes and details about our map.

For the last two weeks we have been working around a text about possums. We did a vocab activity, response to text and create like usal. But this blog post is about my create, here is the success criteria. We had to start in 1837 when possums first arrived. We used movement, arrows, or transitions to show how they spread across the country over time.

Also adding captions, voice-over, or background music to explain what was happening to native plants, birds, and insects as possums increased. Lasty show the change in balance — for example, healthy forests turning bare, or native birds disappearing. We also had a challenge it was, What would a balanced ngahere look like if possums had never been introduced? Using all of that I created this short video about possums using canva.

Last term Te ngahere have been making ecosystems in minecraft education.

Me and my friend made some builds that show, a tui,One big Kereru, two small kererus, a pukeko 

And a kiwi. What we were learning about was what’s in an ecosystem,the roles in an ecosystem, Mutualism,decomposers and consumers, native, endemic and introduced species. We couldn’t record because off the wind and because of lag.

Last term in Te Ngahere we had to make an ecosystem in minecraft.

I didn’t get my work done because the last week of term I was sick and didn’t have enough time.

But my world was mostly finished it shows a sculpture of a kiwi and an opening to its stomach that shows what it eats like worms and spiders and a long river going through the forest filled with tall trees. 

A challenge I faced in this build was the kiwi it took up most of the time I spent and was very big.

  Lately in te Ngahere this term we have been learning about New Zealand ecosystems. We learnt that every ecosystem needs, consumers, decomposers, producers and photosynthesis.

To show our learning we made New zealand ecosystems in minecraft that had to contain producers, consumers, decomposers and photosynthesis. Before we made our ecosystem we walked up school road and looked in a real Ngahere, to see what ngaheres have. Then we started creating our Ngahere.

 My ecosystem represent decomposers by having worms in the soil breaking down consumers.

Some challenges that I faced were there was no tui’s and kereru on google because there in a New Zealand forest. 

I think people will learn not to film outside when its windy because ruins the sound in you recording.

Last term, my class(me included) were creating a ngahere in minecraft educational, the idea was to make a ngahere ecosystem and the decomposers things, producers things in the world. Unfortunately I could not log into minecraft so I did other work when the rest of the class had to do minecraft. But one of my teachers told me to draw on a drawing doc. I didn’t finish my drawing but if I did I think it would be better than my current drawing. I didn’t add the necessary stuff for a NgaHere ecosystem for example I didn’t add animals and other stuff because I didn’t have enough time. This is all I made(I copied it because I cannot screenshot) I was planning on making a tree then make the leafs then animals in the ngahere.

Last term Te Ngahere had been working on there minecraft build for the Ngahere (The forest)

and I think that if we were still doing this then maybe I would of had another try at voice recording and trying to make it perfect. In my minecraft it showed that we had done Mutualism,decomposers,photosynthesize and some native/endemic animals that were shown in are minecraft build like a fox,kiwi,blue penguin,bees worms We also showed some trees like Powhatkawa,Rimu tree, Karaka tree and the biggest tree in nz Kauri tree. We also showed Kereru and Tui.

Something that I learnt was what mutilim is and all the decomposers that are in nz. I Think in the future I would recommend people that don’t know what mutualism is to have a look  these videos that we have for inspo on how to do it. 

 In the last term we’ve been learning about ecosystems, and have been making minecraft worlds with what we learn. My partner and I have made builds focusing on mutualism, these have included: A kereru eating fruits from a big tree, as well as another kereru spreading the seeds around with seed dispersal, there’s also a tui nesting in a great big kauri tree. Whilst making some builds, I found it hard to make something with the alot of detail, so I chose to make the birds bigger to allow me to put more detail. Recently in term 3, we were learning how to make ecosystems in minecraft. We could choose to work alone or pick a buddy, I chose to pick a buddy. Our minecraft showed different types of producers, decomposers and consumers. For our producers we made some trees and more. When we made our decomposers we made worms and fungi. Our consumers were some birds. We learnt about different types of decomposers, producers, and consumers. We also learnt about pollinators. Some of the biggest pollinators in new zealand forests consist of tui, bellbirds and even silvereye. SOmething that I learnt about decomposers was that they could break down dead organic matter. We also learnt about mutualism, mutualism is basically a relationship that benefits both sides. Unfortunately we couldn’t create mutualism in our minecraft world because we forgot. Something like mutualism is seed dispersal, which means that the bird eats a piece of fruit and poops out the seed. Our minecraft build shows the different decomposers and some pollinators along with the producers. In our build we used coprosma, totara, kowhai and pohutukawa.

Last term we’ve been making a ngahere ecosystem in minecraft and we’ve been doing this for around 7 weeks. Before doing this we had to do some research and find information about ngahere ecosystems. I learnt a lot about ngahere ecosystems, so for example, I learnt that there are pollinators other than bees like tui. We included producers, consumer, and decomposers in our minecraft world. We built some karaka trees, a miro tree, a pohutukawa tree and a kauri tree. I think we are proud of the birds we built since they looked pretty accurate to the real ones. Here is our video.

Kia Ora my name is Gracyn I am a year 7 from paihia school. Last term in Te Ngahere we did a ecosystem on minecraft. I had done one but I made a new server and there was not enough space and it  deleted every single one of the servers including the ecosystem one. I should not have had made the new server worse dishion of my LIFE!!!. So I will explain my work in words. 

First I started off with trees surrounding Tane Mahuta. Then on the outsides there were birds such as the bell bird, kereru, kiwi, Tui and Weka. I also had different tree like Fern, Pohutukawa, Rimu, Kowhai and karaka. 

For me it was really cool and I would absolutely love to show it. As I told  u before I can not.

I tell u what I am never going to let them on my chromebook again.
