My response to this video was that it was a terrifying trauma for Maori children and adults and how it affected them emotionally and physically. By speaking Te Reo Maori in schools the Maori children were punished by getting whipped by the British people. It also showed how maori children and adults were forced to speak English that to me showed racism towards a language and towards the Maori culture, It made me think about First Nations in America, and Canada, Africans, and the Afro-Americans being punished or harassed because of their skin Colour, language and culture. I was quite shocked that Maori were told to believe in christianity and to stop believing their own gods-Atuas.
The efforts that were being made to revitalise te reo maori language were the starting of kura kaupapa (Maori Preschools) and kuras (Schools taught in maori language or english and maori). Currently they are organisations that make sure te reo maori language is taught.

My question is, Why would they trick Maoris out of New Zealand sovereignty?

I noticed that in the video around the year 1847 Maori children were punished if they spoke Te Reo in schools. The effect of this was that Maori children would be whipped. The British built churches and schools to make sure that English was spoken at all times. The Maori language started to decline and the British forced them to believe in Christianity rather than their Atuas. In 1972 it was beginning of revitalisation of the Maori language, where Kura Kaupapa (kindergartens, pre schools) that were taught in the Te Reo Maori (full immersion). Then kuras (schools) were built to make sure Te Reo Maori spoken.  I felt sad because the Te Reo was being lost and Maori children were being punished for speaking their language. 

I wonder how the British people would feel if they couldn’t speak the English language and were punished for it?

Film Festival Blog 10/9/26

When we first thought of our film we wanted a rugby league or a TikTok dance film but we didn’t because everyone kept arguing and it was way too hard for them. So we thought of a simple film and it was an interview film with my friends but then Richard withdrew and went into another team. We were in the staff room since we had no space in the classroom and we filmed each person. Although most of our movie cuts were really bad (since it was our first time), we found some good film cuts that went into our film. I was the editor so I had to have some critical thinking to edit this film. My teacher helped me into each section and then i learnt how to do it myself although I thought there was no time since the film had to be tomorrow. So I brought my Chromebook home with permission and worked on it, and by my surprise it was finished. I also helped another team but theirs didn’t show at the film festival. I went to show my edited film to the teacher moreover it was great. I went to our school film festival cinema. There was a lot of amazing films ( 14 films ) either Maori or English that were shown to us.

2 films that I liked in the film festival was

• How it feels to be a new student at school  ( It had a good story line for a first film )
• Maui and the sun ( Although it was Maori and couldn’t understand the language it had great pictures and carried us through the story )

For my Honest feedback Of the Film Festival, Every children’s Movie were great and i really like how they try to put much effort in their work Like Doing Animation, Using Artificial Intelligence (Like Veo, Gemini, and other AI), And Doing it In Real life. But What I Dislike (No Hate Because there is A difference of Dislike and Hate) is When Some Students were talking when watching a Film Which is kind of disappointing for Teachers and adults trying to hear what the Children were saying in the Television, My Feet hurts when i sit down in the floor Folding our legs. When making the Movie it was pretty hard to do it and have to do more weeks or days to do it, But it doesn’t Need to be perfect Because Everyone makes mistakes like me. Special Thanks to Ms. Ulugia-Pua For helping us doing this. My top 2 Favourite Movies Were The film we made The Kids who made the Animation Because Our Film Has Funny and interesting things on it Like The Behind the Scenes One Where it was funny and Animation One was Awesome because there was like Characters designed by Juniors.

Something i learnt about film festival is seeing everyone come together and do a film together and picking a topic to do just like our one that we did it is called see you in the future so me and my friends gather up together and did our film then we finish filming so we started editing then me and my friends were looking at the film and saying its  good but one of my friends said something we need to work on it is having  clear voices and looking at the camera.

Today (10/09/2026) at St. Josephs, Grey Lynn we watched the Film Festival at 9:30 AM in the morning and we reflected on it by writing this blog.

So, my reflection is that it was boring, and loud.

About Cricket.

After Morning tea, Firstly is Cricket. What we do for Cricket is quiet interesting and fun. In cricket, We have to pair up with a buddy, Antoneth Chose me to pair up with her. During Cricket, We first have to get the ball from the floor, First one to get it would win, I lost 3 times and won 2 times I think? I maybe forgot about it. Secondly was to Throw and catch the ball to each other with Both hands It was pretty fun to do it and was pretty funny because I missed to catch or throw the ball a little. Thirdly was to Jump in the Floor Ladder, We had to jump in tip toes, sideways, and other ways to jump in it, We kind of messed up a little. At the last round of Jumping in the Floor Ladder, I tripped a little which it was funny to do (lol). Fourthly we have to throw the ball to the thing (Whatever it was called.),  Me and Antoneth throwed Four times to thing. Fifthly was We have to Put the Ball into your left hand to the right hand, and When your in the Cone zone, That’s When it gets TRICKY, We have to throw the ball up in the Sky, clap your hands Two times, and Catch it. During that, Some of the ball were everywhere in the floor, That was an actual tricky one. And I think that all we did For Today.

Today st joseph school had a cricket session with pro cricket coach. we learned 3 skills that were. team work communitcation and cordanation. we had to split in 2 groups group A group B. the first activity was when you had to pair up in 2s one from each team. and than there was a cone and a ball and the coach called out heads,shoulders,knees,tose, and when he called ball we had two grab the ball first one who got the ball got a point and it was first to 5. than the next activity was we had to take one step back and throw the ball back and fourth than we took two steps back and did the same thing then the next activity when we had to do high knees side,shuffles,and hops. then our last activitys was when we had to walk through cones throwing the ball up and down.

I felt very tired and hungry.

Today at St Joseph School Grey Lynn had a session with a Professional Cricket Coach. We played with our buddies ( my buddy was Dante ) and the first game was head knees and toes etc. but when the coach calls ball! We catch the ball before our buddy gets the ball and it was a 2-3 which Dante won.

Next one was a Fitness session ( we were split in team a and b ), the first exercise was to jump over the ladder and jump over the ladder again and again until we reach the end, the second exercise was to jog over the ladder until it was the end. the third exercise was to have one step and jump repeat til the end and the last exercise was to criss-cross the ladder to the end.

The nearly last one was to get a ball and juggle it in the lower cones until you went to the higher cones. So if you were in the higher cones. You would throw it up in the air and clap two times ( one at the front and one at the back )

Lastly we were throwing balls at the goals which you get points and the winning team get to give a punishment to the losing team. Team B won ( I was in team B ) and gave 5 starjumps and 10 squats to the losing team

Today the whole school had a cricket session, involving 1 Grafton United cricket coach.

During, 

We learned about teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and communication. First in the session we did a sort of “Simon Says,” but is was more of a dance (heads, shoulders, knees, toes, nose…) IF he said “ball” we had to grab the ball as fast we could, then following with leg training, ball coordination (Throwing the ball to each hand, and clap clap catch), following that was throwing accuracy, however, we sadly did not bowl, and then winning team was… Team B, sadly.

I felt absolutely EXHAUSTED.

• There was a Rugby game between the Wallabies rugby union team and the Tongan team ( 11 – 16 )
• The first European counter with Tonga was with Willem Schouten and Jacob Le Maire in 1616. Although James Cook stayed there 3 months and named it the Friendly Islands in 1773.
• The reason why Tonga wasn’t colonised it’s because of the fierce George Tupou.
