“In the video, it was noticed that Pākeha we’re abusive foes to the Māori and often didn’t care about their actions, during the New Zealand Land Wars the Māori had sadly lost to the British Empire but they still continued their struggles, now fast-forward to the 1900s, the British started getting aggressive- as in if you spoke Māori, or acted like it you would be caned by a teacher in your own school, and this wasn’t just schools, walking down the street and a lawman sees you doing that would result in the rough beating of you. The Māori struggled to keep up with their efforts to revive the language, culture, and identity, but they still got through, they had made a petition and marched to Wellington, the government building and called the parly members out. Even though they marched all that way they still kept with their traditions and protocol. The Parliament of New Zealand had began to assist with Māori revitalisation. Now, we live in a neutral New Zealand, some people don’t like the Māori some are well okay with it.
I feel connected to every story of British colonisation, segregation, or racism. There are many associations and organisations now that help with people that used to be of British colonised land, there is many stories like this, such as the apartheid era of South Africa. It’s also very sad that apartheid and this sort of racism to Māori people now.
I wonder how certain British people would feel if they got colonised by each nation they colonised.”
