Spring Learning Journey 2025 Activity 7 Paper Daffodils

Today, after making my immortal flower, I made a paper daffodil that was also immortal. This is activity 7 of the Spring Learning Journey, and the second crafty spring flower one. For this task, I was provided a link on how to make it. The exemplar video used new yellow coloured paper, new muffin paper, glue and a green stick. I didn’t want to waste materials and I also didn’t have the resources to make it. Instead, I used a recycled paper, an old straw, glue stick and some blue tac. My daffodil is not the usual yellow design. I coloured only the inside to a gradient, trying to make it look like the Pink Pride daffodil. For my white outer, I used some drawn on A4 paper cut into a square. For my inner part of the daffodil, I used the remains when making the original square. I coloured it and stuck everything together.

Spring Learning Journey 2025 Activity 3 Immortal Flowers

Today, I went crafty and chose to do activity 3 of the Spring Learning Journey. This task was to make egg carton flowers, something that will last all spring. I thought if it would last all spring, then it will also last all year and so on, resulting in making immortal flowers. I did not have spare egg cartons to make these flowers with, so I made my flower out of a toilet paper roll. I created a colourful tulip that was meant to stand hands free. I accidentally cut a bit too much so I used some of my cut scraps to make a stand for it.

Sisters?

During the holiday’s, I got a haircut.

Because I have curly hair, I had to get layers to make to look better. Before I had my haircut, I would always tie it up so my curls weren’t as pronounced. But once the hairdresser told me what to do and how to look after it, it was curlier than I have ever seen it before.

I put product and spray in it and the results were crazy.

I compared it with my sister’s hair and the difference was astonishing.

Goose

21st of September, I was staying with Molly and it was the day after we’d seen the puppies. It was a sunny morning so we thought we should see the puppies again.

We got changed into our clothes and walked over to their house. When we were walking there, we couldn’t see the puppies on the yard, so we kept walking because we didn’t want to waltze right in there and demand for puppies.

We walked more around the corner to see if the puppies were there, but they weren’t so we decided we would go for a walk. When we got near the end of the road, a dog came from another house. She ran up to us and Molly said that the dog’s name was Goose.

We walked back thinking that Goose would go home, but she followed us all the way back to the house. When she wouldn’t go back, Hannah said that we would drive her back. Goose eagerly got in the boot of the car and we dropped her off.

Walking around a garden is relaxing, pretty fun and exhausting. But you can hear, smell and see them! Here is my list on what I saw, heard and smelled.

See

  • The blossom petals dropping to the dirt.
  • Flowers sway as the wind blows.
  • The wood of the trees.

Hear

  • The birds chirping in the sky
  • The wind whispering in my ears
  •  Our footsteps in the rocks

Smell

  • Flowers fragrance coming from the stamen
  • The fresh fruits picked from gardens to eat
  • The oxygen that comes from the trees

Pipe Cleaner flowers!!౨ৎ

✨ Sà-wàt-dii khâ Everyone!! ✨

For today’s adventure, I’m diving into activity seven from the Spring Learning Journey (SPLJ) 🌷🌱!! The challenge was to create daffodils using stuff I had at home while following a tutorial🎨✨. BUT I wanted to do something a little different 😏💖, so I decided to make a big hibiscus flower 🌺 and put some smaller flowers around it, two lilies 🌸 and one lavender 💜. Instead of using the things in the video, I used pipe cleaners 🌀✨ and followed a different tutorial I found on TikTok 📱💫.

This activity was SO much fun!! 🥰🎉 I loved getting creative and trying something new 💖🌟. It made me feel super proud of what I made 😎💐, and it showed me that even if you don’t follow a tutorial exactly, you can still make something amazing your own way 💕🌸💫.

Who is Kate Sheppard and Why she is on our $10 note 

Have you ever wondered why there is a lady in our $10 dollar note? Well welcome and today I will be explaining who Kate Sheppard is and why she is on our $10 dollar note. 

Who is Kate Sheppard and why is she on our $10 dollar note?

  1.  Kate was a leader who let women the right to vote in New Zealand. 
  2.  She was often called a leading suffragist (Someone who supports the right to vote)
  3.  Kate Became a key leader around 1887.
  4.  She was a strong believer in women’s rights and was also a skilled Writer & Speaker. 
  5.  When Years passed she recently passed away on July 13th, 1934, In Christchurch, New Zealand. 
  6.  Kate Sheppard is on our $10 dollar note to honour her role as the leader of women’s suffrage movement. 
  7.  She was the first lady to grant women the right to vote in 1893.
  8.  In 1893, her work made New Zealand the first country in the world to let all women vote. 
  9.  The note also has a white camellia flower next to her, Which is a symbol of the women’s fight to vote. 
  10. After winning the vote for women, she was elected as the first president of NCWNZ ( National Council of Women of New Zealand ) When it was founded in 1896.

PGC: EVALUATE IMPACT AND RE-EVALUATE PLAN

Well, I did not expect Term 3 to go as fast as it did. We had so much going on this term it was a lot to analyze, especially with the uplifting of our Digital Fluency in the Kopa, with our Year 3 & 4 tamariki. I must say, they did amazing with adapting to everything that this term had in store, but let’s get on with the evaluation.

What did I do in the Kopa?

To be very honest, this term was quite slow with the advancement in digital fluency. We had Unit Trip to Koroneihana (3 day Trip), Tatarakihi Kapa Haka Competition and practices, all on which I was the organizer.

As planned by myself and our In-Class Support, we continued with our in-class support sessions for Digital Fluency. This didn’t go as well as we hoped, as there were so many kaupapa (topics/initiatives) happening on those particular days, and the availability of other days was not suitable. Throughout the 10-week term, we had only three in-class akoranga (lessons/teaching sessions) scheduled and completed. I feel this was not enough for our Juniors to fine-tune their digital skills. Although they understand the concept of using digital skills to uplift their akoranga, it’s the use of the Pokarangi (Chromebook) and its functions that are difficult. I can confidently say they can navigate their Drive, find Google Drawing, and go into their Class Site, but anything past those aspects needs more guidance. We have not yet ventured out of SMRF IT!, however, they are finding their way around SMRF IT! with a little bit of guidance, so this is a practice that will continue to be a part of our digital lessons.

When I relay back on the last PGC post I put up, The Blogs were are big focus for this term. This wasn’t the case at all. I felt that our juniors needed more time to get use to Blogging as there are so many aspects to creating a simple blog post. I would love to continue this focus as a goal for Term 4.

What was a barrier to achieving my goal?

  • Not having the resources or lessons to be able to carry on the lesson;
  • Forgetting the Kawa of Care Tikanga;
  • To much kaupapa happening in our Unit and Kopa;
  • Having diverse levels of learners in one Kopa;
  • Not having a follow up day for Digital Fluency;
  • Setting aside time for Tau 3-4 to focus on buiding digital fluency.

What can I do better next Term?

  • Revisiting our Kawa of Care Tikanga;
  • Have a Follow up time/day for the days we are expected to do Digital Fluency;
  • Setting up our lessons to suit our Tau 3-4 and organising our Tau 5-6 who are already digitally fluent to work independently;
  • Pair our Tuakana up with Teina to help guide them in their mahi during the lessons;
  • Have the required resources/lessons ready for our akoranga.

What goals will I revisit for Term 4?

  • Tuakana, Teina guidance during this time of learning;
  • Revisit Kawa of Care Tikanga;
  • SMRT IT! Strategy;
  • Creating a Blog.

By the end of the year i want my tamariki to know how to independently SMRF their mahi and create a blog with success.

Why is Kate Sheppard on the NZ ten dollar note??

Firstly What did Kate Sheppard do and what was she? Here’s three ways!

1.She was the most prominent leader of New Zealand’s women’s suffrage movement. 

2.She helped organize the movement by distributing pamphlets, holding meetings, writing letters to the press, and giving public speeches. 

3.Her efforts were instrumental in New Zealand becoming the first country in the world to grant women the right to vote in 1893.

 

Now we get into the bit in why is she on the ten dollar not and not me ? Nah just kidding!!

 

Kate Sheppard was the leading light of the New Zealand women’s suffrage movement. In recent years her contribution to New Zealand’s identity has been acknowledged on the $10 note and a commemorative stamp.
