Social Studies Blog Term 4 – 2025

Hello, For this blog post I will be sharing what we learn for Term 4, 2025!

For this term, we are looking forward to learning about Kaitiatanga in Action (Climate Change, Environment) and others.

Let’s talk about Kaitiatanga in Action. Kaitiatanga in Action is a Maori concept embodying guardianship, preservation, and protection of the environment, reflecting a deep connection between two people and the natural world. It emphasizes the responsibility to care for the environment in a way that sustains it for future generations.

First week lesson:

For our first lesson we watched the Lorax, and answered some questions for the Lorax task. – link: The Lorax

Our second task was focused on Easter island – link Easter Island

I really enjoyed our first week’s lesson, but there will be more.. But now I want to talk about our Social Studies Assessment and test.

Assessment link – Kaitiatanga in Action ( PEEL writing) Assessment

My Informational Writing on ANZAC day

Hello bloggers!

Welcome back to Somya’s blog!

Today I have been doing writing!

I know it’s a bit late but I have wrote a writing on ANZAC day!

I chosed ANZAC day and it’s significance as my Informational writing topic because it is a true symbol of Hope, Patience and resiliance for 2 nations Australia and New Zealand.

People still till today’s date celebrate ANZAC day by laying out poppies and big parade’s happen on grounds.

As you may have guessed I have done this Writting on the DLO of Google Doc’s as this is a Writting and I think that’s what most people’s choice’s would be for a writing.

I have enjoyed this topic escpecially and would rate it a 10/10 (What I Mostly rate things I do) As I usually enjoy things I do.

As we have been learning about information reports I have done may more information reports which are blogged such as the Kea, Kaka, Vanquita, and Christchurch and many others/ etc so please don’t forget to check them out as well!

IN order do to a writting we have to fill out 2 sheets first as we must have alot information and back up supplies/INformation on our topic which makes us look full and brainy on the topic so In order do to this topic I have also filled out 2 other backup sheets.

One of them was a Google drawing and the other was a Google doc.

I know there are many way’s to blog this like taking a screenshot, Dowloading, filing and the copying the link but I used my chromebook’s high technology and just control A’d my whole writing then Contorol C’d and then Control V’d it onto my blog post as this is a very easy way and also would reccomemend it to you!

As you may have understood/noticed that I have loved this topic so much and also learnt alot about it so I would highly recommend it to you!

So this draw’s me near to the end of my blog post I hope you enjoy and if you do please don’t forget to comment sompthing posititve, helpful and thoughtful!

ANZAC day and it’s significance informational writing

Introduction

ANZAC, A standing for Australian and N representing the nation of New Zealand. So you could already guess that ANZAC day is something related to Australia and New Zealand. ANZAC day is the resemblance of the men who fought to their last breaths fighting for Gilibili’s  (Turkey) nation. They fought with the European.

How it all started

During the nation wide World war New Zealand and Australia decided to cooperate together so they could do something but the problem was that there army was to small but that’s when they thought of the idea of the ANZAC’s. Many men who were untrained came together risking there lives so their future generations could live a happy life.

Gilibili Campaign

So the they went to Gilibili where they fought on the sandy narrow beaches of that city. The surface was rough, the weather was harsh, their enemies were well prepared and they had very few soldiers. Many lost their lives and others lost their love ones.

Conclusion/Why we remember them to this date

ANZAC day is still celebrated till this date on the 25th of April with laying out poppies and big big parade’s happen in funeral area’s. ANZAc day will always remain a hope of courage, during the dark cloudy day’s and always bring the spirit of hope and resilience.

Autumn Art!

As part of our Journey Through Time inquiry, Room 1 learners explored seasonal changes by creating autumn leaf prints. They painted real leaves with autumn colours and pressed them onto paper to make vibrant prints.

The learners observed the different patterns each leaf produced and linked their artwork to our learning about how seasons change over time.

Ball Games Fun!

Room 1 learners enjoyed a refreshing afternoon outdoors playing partner ball games. They practised passing the ball underarm, rolling it, and giving it one bounce before their partner caught it.

They worked together, took turns and encouraged one another. It was great to see their confidence grow as they improved their skills while having so much fun.

A great session of teamwork and movement!
