Title – NZ’s Election Process

Intro – To cast your vote you have to be 18 and over. The NZ voting is every 4 years. NZ was the first country to let women vote in 1893. NZ is a democratic country.

P1 -MMP stands for Mixed Members proportional. MMP is important to voting because it makes sure that it is fair for the voters.You have two votes you use one and you use the other one that is called an electric vote if parties get electric votes the more seats that  they will get in parliament if they get 5% electoral votes they will get 5% of seats in parliament out of 120 seats.people can vote if they are woman, man or other, you have to be over the age of 18 to vote. In other countries women are not allowed to vote or have a right to vote.

P2 – When NZ votes it is every 4 years. The political parties are National, opportunity, ACT, Green party Labour, NZ first, and Te pāti Māori the leaders of the leaders are National Party is Christopher Luxon, Labour is Chris Hipkins, Green party is Marama Davidson and Chlöe Swarbrick,  ACT is David Seymour, NZ first is Winston Peters and Te Pā Māori Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi.

P3 – In New Zealand we were the first country to let women vote in 1893 on 19th of September, the first woman to vote in the world is Carrie McPherson.

When parties do not have enough votes and they want to win they will make a coalition, a coalition is when two or more parties make an alliance but not a permanent alliance so they can get more seats in parliament so they can win together. Voting in NZ is very different to every other country.  

Conclusion – Voting in NZ is very important because voting makes sure that everyone has a chance to say what the issues and problems are.

NZ’s Election Process

Intro – you can start voting at 18 and 1 fun fact was nz was the first cunchre to let girls vote in the world in1893. In nz we vote every 4 years.

MMp is a short way to say you get to vote 2 times and the two votes are named electoral and party. Party is the government you want and electoral is the individual you want in your district.

A special vote is when you can not get to a polling box so it takes a wighill for it to get to where it is meant to go. And when you post your vote it will take a few days for the election to finish so that the special votes get cawnitid.

A coalition is a group working together to get more than half of parliament.There are 120 seats in parliament but it can change due to overhang seats. And a polling box is where you fill in a pes of paper and then you bot it in a box that gets tacking at the end of tha day and the votes get cawntid

This week I would like to share with you all about creatures in the rain-forests there are 5 facts on each slide about the (Ruru morepork) and the Pygmy Marmoset. and I got to learn about these creatures because I picked them.

I have created a DLO about voting at eighteen. I think that voting at eighteen should go down to sixteen because then more people can vote.

This is a fact slide of most Yanomami facts. We learned about this because we read this book called Kensuke Kindom. The reason its the Yanomami tribe is because this boy named michael was saling his ship with his mum, dad and dog and in the middle of the night he went to go see his dog stella but they both fell in the water and then got stuck on and island cover in trees.

For the past couple of weeks we have been learning about rain forests and the Yanomami tribe. Some things I have learnt are How they survive and what their daily day looks like, It was quite interesting finding out that there is a tribe living in the amazon rain forest and how they live and they all had smiles on there face.

Recently we have been learning about age milestones and age restrictions one age restriction is leaving school you have to be 16 or older before you leave school early in this task we got to choose between agreeing or disagreeing I disagreed because of them needing knowledge in the future. I enjoyed thinking about my opinion   and writing about how I disagreed.

Recently we have been learning about making decisions. I enjoyed this because I got to learn about decision making. I found it challenging to write it in the correct way. In this task we got to choose one of the four boxes above I chose decisions.

I have made a DLO about Gecko’s and Capuchin monkey. I had to write 5 facts and put 5 images in for both Creatures.

We were learning about restriction at certain ages so I decided to  make this Google drawing for you guys hope you enjoy.

NZ’s Election Process

  New Zealand is a democratic country which means that you get the chance to vote instead of only parliament getting to decide who the new government is. By voting, you choose representatives who make decisions on your behalf, ensuring that the power remains with the people of our country. Democracy is a system of government, allowing people to have a say in how their country is run and what laws are made. The word democracy comes from the ancient Greek word demos (the people) and kratos (power or rule) meaning rules by the people. But there are some non democratic countries which means they cannot vote for any parties as it is a law in their country.

MMP stands for Mixed Member Proportional. In New Zealand you can only get two votes: the party vote and the electorate vote. The party vote is where you vote for a party eg. labour, national. The electorate vote means voting for a specific candidate to represent the local area where you live. Your party vote is the most important vote because it determines the total number of seats each party gets in Parliament and who gets to become the government of New Zealand.

National- – Christopher Luxon, Labour – Chris Hipkins, Act- David Seymour, Opportunity – Daniel Eb, Green – Chlöe Swarbrick & Marama Davidson, Te Pāti Māori – Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, New Zealand First – Winston Peters. There are only 7 parties here but there are 17 in total in New Zealand.

When the parties do not get at least 61 seats in parliaments they have to coalition with a minor party to get more seats and if they get more than 61 they can become government but then they all have to share ideas and run NZ together. If a single party gets more than 61 out of 120 votes then there is no reason to share power with a minor party they can just run our country themselves. PV is a voting system that stands for preferential voting. There are 120 members of parliament. Each of the 120 electorates, including Maori electorates, elects one MP. Voters rank the candidates – 1, 2, 3, etc.- in the order that they prefer  them. The candidate marked as ‘1’ is their first choice. A candidate who gets more than half of all the ‘1’ votes wins. If no one gets more than half of all ‘1’ votes wins. If no one gets more than half of the ‘1’ votes the candidate with the least ‘1’s is out of the running. These notes then go to the next candidate each voter chose next, as ‘2’. This process is repeated until one candidate has more than half of the votes. Because there are 120 seats and if they get under 61 they will need to see if anyone will vote for them because they must get over half of the seats which would be 60.

 In my opinion I think that all women and men should be able to vote but only if they live in a democratic country. Everyone has all rights to vote if their country is a democratic country.
