Transmission/Gearbox

Image result for gearbox

For the past week in metal tech we have been learning about engines and gearboxes, we learned alot of the functions of engines and gears, such as the differences between petrol and diesel and gearboxes and transmissions. We also learned about 4WD, rpm, torque horsepower and more. Today we learned that a transmission uses a torque converter and primary/secondary drums for an automatic car. A gearbox uses a flywheel that has the gears in a input (which the power from the engine comes) and the output shaft (which is what gear you selected.

Here are some questions i was asked to answer                   (Gearbox)
Which engine do I prefer?
Petrol
Why?
Because of the less fuel mileage and higher rpm
What is the difference between diesel and petrol?
Petrol would have more rpm and it is more eco friendly but costs more and diesel has more torque to pull themselves up places like steep hills and to get unstuck and costs lest but more fuel mileage and releases alot of CO2 into the environment.
Transmission or gearbox?
I would choose transmission
Why?
Because it would be easier to control and you can just cruise along the road without having to switch gears and not stalling the car

Metal technology – Automotive

Automotive
For the last few lessons of Metal technology, my class and i have been learning about automotive and how a petrol and diesel engine works. personally, I prefer an diesel engine. mainly because it cost almost a dollar less than regular petrol however it is not that good on the environment. The difference between a petrol engine and a diesel engine is a petrol engine needs a spark plug to start the vehicle where diesel engines need compressed air to start the vehicle. i’d prefer pwning a manual vehicle, 5 speed to be exact. Reasons being, you can haul heavy stuff or when your stuck, you can get out just by adjusting the transfer case. manual can go faster with the more RPM (revs per minute) which is another reason why i want a manual.

Opinion Piece – Corona virus

A Opinion piece is where you choose or get given a topic and write your opinion about it.

For my opinion piece writing I chose Corona virus.
Sites I used:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/opinion/119385975/coronavirus-a-matter-of-when-not-if
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/26/us/coronavirus-us-american-treatment-trial/index.html

Corona virus started to be small, but soon it turned into a big thing. In China it started. Quickly, only in a few months it has gone world wide. Fortunately, Corona virus has not yet come to New Zealand. I think it will eventually come to NZ though because it is already in Australia. Corona virus is air born, so it has travelled 4,641 miles. Sadly, there is no cure for Corona yet and more than 80,000 people have been infected and 2,700 people have died world wide.

I feel so sorry for the families who have been infected and have to watch their kids, mums, dad and more get more and more sick. Hopefully, someone can find a cure soon.

Bridge making

In medal tech, we built bridges out of Popsicle sticks and hot glue.
Therefore we tested how much pressure the bridge could hold, using numbered objects such as bricks (blocks).
There are different types of techniques you can use, to make it possibly less breakable compared to others.
But i also learnt that it takes effort and patience to create something incredibly stable, not only that but something easy to work with.
I participated, but give all admiration to the person who put everything together, Hana.

SST-600 word esay thing

In social studies we had to do a 600 work essay this my work.

Why does Maori not want to give the government the land at ihumatao.
The Ihumatao land is recorded on the United Nations International Council on Monuments and Sites at risk. This cultural heritage landscape matters because or its stories, ecological values are critical to our understanding of the histories and futures of our country.
For Māori this place is an important place because this land embodies sources of identity and wellbeing as well as family, community relationships.
Ihumātao, believed to be one of the first places where Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau settled, farmed and thrived, has been designated to make way for 480 new homes in a city crippled by a housing crisis because of all of the new people coming into our country.
1863
The land was taken from the Maori during the waikato invasion well according to Soul.
The land was taken by the new Zealand settlement act. This interfering with the waitangi treaty, signed in 1840.
Historically the land was believed to be occupied by the waikato-tainui.
1867
Crown grant broke the treaty and stole the land from the Maori tribe waikato-tainui and other smaller local tribes
2012
Auckland Council tried to make the land open into public space, but the move was challenged in the Environment Court and council was directed to rezone the land.Meaning it could be developed for business or residential purposes in future.
2014
After the City was formed, the government and Auckland Council designated 32 hectares adjacent to the Otuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve as a Special Housing Area.
Pania Newton, one of the founders of SOUL along with cousins and other locals raised concerns saying they would oppose the zoning of the land.
2019
SOUL along with other supporters in Wellington took their petition to Parliament demanding government intervention to prevent a confrontation on the land.
The following month a hikoi, ending in Auckland’s Aotea Square saw a 20,000 signature petition delivered to Auckland mayor Phil Goff calling for local council and government to protect the land.
The same month, the Māori Affairs select committee said it was considering the case and could recommend the government finds a way to stop the development, initiate a Treaty justice process or even return the land to the mana whenua.
An eviction notice was served to those occupying the land. Auckland mayor Phil Goff said after several efforts there was nothing more the council could do to.Some Auckland councillors said they regretted signing off on the Ihumātao land being used for housing and voted unanimously in favour of organising an urgent meeting between interested parties as a last ditch effort to resolve the dispute.
A recent Environment Court decision showed significant flaws in New Zealand’s heritage legislation that did not allow the Court to consider the values of whole cultural heritage landscape when reviewing Heritage NZ’s decision to grant the company the authority to modify or destroy Maori archaeological and other heritage sites on the land. Gaining that authority doesn’t make the decision right, it simply puts it within the narrow terms of the existing law and allows the developer to proceed.
SOUL has now exhausted every legal means to stop the development. We need the Government and Auckland Council to step in. We are fast approaching a confrontation on the land, but will keep doing everything we can to prevent that from happening. We need collective action and innovative thinking to resolve this mounting crisis.
We’re now calling on the public to take a stand for this land. Join us in protecting this unique landscape for all New Zealanders and future generations. Please sign this petition now!

Popsicle Stick Bridge

Ever since we started metal tech we had to design and make a bridge out of popsicle sticks. My group (Me, Vaden and Cohan) had won the challenge with a whopping 49kg. We also learned that making sticks into triangles on the side gives more support. Here are some photos of our bridge

understanding what “Human rights” and “social justice” are.

1. What insights did I have into ‘Human Rights’ and ‘Social Justice’ as I learned about how others are treated in other countries?

I learnt that in some countries people don’t get much rights as others and that some people wouldn’t care much about social justice and some people would get power and money over others and they would try and keep them down.

2. What questions about Human Rights and Social Justice do I need answering?

I don’t think i have any questions about human rights and social justice.
