Father Pui Visit (PMS)

Kia Ora,

You may or may not know this but the month of October is a very special month; Its world missions month. World Missions Month is the month of October and it leads up to mission Sunday ( the second to last Sunday of October). This morning we had Father Pui the manger of New Zealand Mission Pontifical Societies, came in to talk to us all about what we can do to help, what its all about and how it became a thing.

Father Pui talked a lot about where hes been in the world and we watched a short video of a school who are less fortunate and cant always afford school supplies and clean drinking water. He said that it made him feel for the school and it was his mission to help support them and fund raise them some money for their school.

Here is a photo of us and the Pope Leo XIV cut out…

Supper Science ☁

Today we learnt about Science. The people who showed us about the science their names were graham and Katey. They were really alsom and amazing it was super fun. There were all of the year 5 and 6 but not really all of them. What happened we learnt and saw how to make a cloud with water and Liquid Nitrogen and then one of our class mates had Liquid Nitrgen poured on them which was really cool to see. Then we learnt that you need class if you pure Liquid Nitrgen  or you might get it in your eyes and it can freeze because you have water in your  eyes. Have you ever seen Liquid Nitrgen? Here are some photos.

The Cool And Digital Science Road Show

Today in the morning right after our classes brain break, we went to go see some people that show different schools of what science is like. When our class was inside the hall we met room 1, in there. After a while a woman came up and introduced herself, (her name was Katy Graham.)  and there was also a man behind me. (his name was Sir Ernest.) Katy played a short video of a school that used to be a place for teenagers (aka college.) once the video ended, she said we will create an atom! If you don’t know what an atom is it is a small particle all around us. As soon as I heard this I was thrilled so were my friends. First we needed a small, wooden bead on a metal, wire. And after that we needed a small white circle, once our class got the white circle we needed to attach it with the wire kind of lIke a knot. when we did that we had to attach a bigger white circle to the wire. then we needed these small fluffy and colorful wire then we needed to attach it around the big circle we had 6 wires 2 on the inside and 4 on the outside. after we finished making our atoms we moved on to sitting down and watch Sir Ernest  explain how magnets only attract if you do it the opposite so if  you put the red part of the magnet on the other red part of the magnet then it would not attract. We watched him wave around the Magnets and talk, for a while.  Then next he took out a leaf blower from the table and picked someone to come up and do an experiment him he chose Maddie (someone not in my class) he then put a jacket on maddie, and I could tell by her face that she was nervous,  Sir Ernest blew maddie with the leaf blower then picked up a little ball and put it on the leaf blower, and then it went up in the air! Everyone wanted to stand on their legs and applaud for him (I think that was just me who wanted to do it.) anyway he showed us lots of cool science things I will list them because I am currently on 387 words now 389. We did a Magnet rail gun Making a cloud and doing things so cool like making the light flicker and finally AFTER 1 HOUR! It was play time.  The End

Father Pui ✝️🌏🪙💵

Today on the 16/10/2026 Father Pui the national Pontifical Mission NZ Rep, Father Pui told us about his visits to the pope in Rome and How he’s met Pope Leo the 14th twice and Pope Francis once. Father Pui helped make the missio NZ box challenge and said that he would love for us to help because there’s always someone doing worse and this money helps them get on track at school and at life.

He talked to us about what Pontifical Mission NZ Rep meant

What it means – an official or regional director acting on behalf of Missio NZ

He talked to us about what words meant and how catholic means universal and every catholic church will welcome you and greet you as an equal. When he was done chatting about his life ,who he is and what things mean we all stood up and took a photo with the cut out of the pope all together.

It was a great time having him come, I hope he comes back sometime because he taught me alot.

The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) 2026

Earlier today we had Father Pui come talk to my class. He talked about derelict schools and how the don’t get all the resources they need and deserve. One of the schools he talked about was a school in the Philippines St Therese learning school – old sagay.  this school sadly has students that can’t afford school supplies, basic needs, and much more. Their school is also falling apart bit by bit.

A few more cool facts about him is he met Pope Leo XIV 2 times! And he also got a handwritten letter from Pope Francis right before he passed away, saying that he is gonna become the leader of the society!

Here is a photo of us with Father Pui and the cut out of Pope Leo XIV

Have you ever met Father Pui?

Super science!! 🧑‍🔬

Today, we had Grayhm and Katy come to visit us! Katy works at the art centre and Grayhm works as  scientist. They showed us some really cool things! Like gravity he had a ball and  a leaf blower. He picked up the leaf blower up  and putted the ball on top of the leaf blower and then boom it was right on top of the leaf blower  with the air force lifting it up! Here are  some photos!!

Fascinating Science Road Show!

You will NOT believe what we did today! We saw the SCIENCE ROAD SHOW! An amazing science program that you can actually do out of school too. The people doing it were Katy and Graham.  Here are the things we did! First we learnt about the 1 string violin, he used a powder and slid his fingers down the pole which created a high pitched sound. Next was learning to create the atom Carbon. Carbon includes electrons, neutrons and protons. After that we watched a short video about the art centre and what it was before. I can’t fully remember in order but I know we did SO MUCH FUN STUFF!!! We did a lot of fun activities to do with liquid nitrogen after that, but my favourite one was the cloud shooter thingy. And at the end, Mr. Gray lay on a bed of nails that sent jitters down everyone’s back. He said it felt nice though. Here are some photos of room 2 and my creation! What is your favourite science activity to do?

Thank you to the Science Roadshow Group!!!

Zoe Science Roadshow!

I saw the Science Roadshow!

There was a hot air balloon and when the hot air is lighter  It goes up.

Graham made a ball with holes in it float with the leaf blower there from the Art Centre!

My favourite thing I saw was… when Graham  made some clouds that looked like a circle was so fluffy We got to get pens I got purple so did Violet I

Miss Kenny went on a bed of nails it did not really hurt and guess what Miss Kenny chose me to

to stand on a piece of wood

I had to stand on a piece of wood that was on Miss Kenny.

It was, so scary

Science Roadshow comes on every year with something new to learn.

Science Road Show🛣

Today, your favourite Room 9 had a science roadshow, not actually ON the road and there’s a science show while you on the road! It’s just different experiments of science like a roadshow, and it was very cool!                                                    We had two people showing us the experiments to us and they are called….. Graham and Katy from Art Centre! Some of the experiments we had was…. Making a atom with some materials. A metal instrument. A Nitrogen cloud which was kinda cooling. Liquid Nitrogen that fell on the floor! Balloon shrivelled up in liquid Nitrogen, it looked like a person with a funny face. Hot air balloon. Gravity leaf blower. Magnet rail gun. And one of my favourite a nail bed where our teacher Mr Gray had to lay down on it!

It was really funny, and Mr Grey looked like he was holding on to the side of the bed for life! Also the people who were giving us the science roadshow were very good with interacting and definitely extroverts, they had loud and clear voices when showing science and they were real nice to us! Also if you have seen science experiments before comment what the experiment was about! My fav one is a balloon shrivelling up in Liquid Nitrogen, and also this experiment was really funny, it was when there was a nail bed it looked REAL sharp and my teacher had to lay down on it and he was holding the side for dear life!

One misson

Today, we had Father Pui come to visit us and talk about his adventure.  He said he has meet the pope Leo 3 times!! He also talked about  how he went to the Philippines 🇵🇭 and went to this school  it had cracks everywhere on the building, at the back it was half gone from the top he showed us photos and a video. It made me think that we have food water a roof over our heads and lots of those kids  have no food and have to still go to school. It was  really interesting. Thank you Father Pui for coming. Here is a photo of all of us!

The Science Roadshow 2026 💥

Today, we had some cool dudes come in with awesome science equipment. We had Katy from Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre and Graham from University of Canterbury who hosted and explained this whole event. There were a lot of things on the table, including a leaf blower and cylinders of liquid nitrogen.

First, we got some packs that had 6 chops of pipe cleaners, 2 different sized rings, and a bead on a wire. Katy introduced us to The Arts Centre, and gave us a virtual tour on a video. Next, we learnt a bit more about the history of The Arts Centre, how it used to be a university, and how famous people of New Zealand went to the old university Canterbury College. Then, using the packs we got, we made a model of a carbon atom.

After the little craft, we moved on to the show of science experiments. The first demonstration was a ball and a leaf blower. Blowing a ball with holes made it higher than blowing a normal ball, but both balls could be tilted at an angle. The reason for this is because the leaf blower creates the Coanda Effect, so as the stream of air hits the curved surface of the ball, the air wraps around and clings to its shape.

Other experiments included liquid nitrogen and magnets. The year 6 and 7 kept getting picked to be a volunteer in demonstrating experiments, like pressing buttons and rolling magnetic balls. They were dangerous experiments too, like the magnet was a gun that can shoot and an aluminium ring, cooled with liquid nitrogen, flew out and almost freeze burned my classmates. Luckily, they dodged, avoiding what could have been worse.

Most other demonstrations went as planned. Objects flew, but was safely caught such as the steam engine. Some experiments required volunteers to help the demonstration like shaking the liquid nitrogen off a shrunken balloon. All the volunteers were either from year 6 or 7. I am a year 8, so I would have preferred to have a chance of demonstration, but unfortunately they never picked someone that wasn’t leaving soon.

Overall, I didn’t think this was the best show I’ve ever seen. I had seen this show in year 6, and they did the same experiments again. They also didn’t pick people like my class and I who are leaving very soon, so I didn’t think that was very fair. Back in year 6, they also didn’t pick much year 6 volunteers, but at least back then the show was new and interesting.

2026 100 Board Prime Numbers

Yesterday the amazing Room 9 did a math activity with a 1-100 board listing numbers that are prime, 2x, 3x, and 5x! It was fun, but also boring because everyone was LOCKED IN listing numbers, and only me and my friends were yapping so it was a bit awkward doing this math activity! Anyways here is the activity everyone’s locked into.
