Greetings! Today in Visual Art, we have a do-now task. It’s an exercise about series & sequences. We have to rearrange the following images and try to think of the chronological order in which the artist created the art. Here’s what I think:

How I thought about it is that I categorised them into four groups. At the top left corner, we got the sketches. I think this is obviously the first step that the artist took. This is because sketches usually come first, and I can tell it’s a sketch because it has a pencil-like sketch texture, while the photograph of the KFC place is more like the starting point. What I mean by this is that KFC is known for selling delicious chicken, and I’m assuming the following chicken sketches are based on the KFC place franchise, imagining the chickens in a way that personifies them and makes them alive. This leads me to the next group in the top right corner. I think this is the second step that the artist made because the chicken is drawn with more realistic details. For instance, the feather looks softer and includes more tiny little details. Thirdly, the third step is on the left side again at the bottom of the first group/step. I think this is the third. Step because it follows through the idea of making the chickens look more “alive” and personified as some way to sympathise with the cruel doings of KFC, mass-producing tender chickens every day. In both pictures, the chicken looks daring, as if it’s willing to fight back and emphasises that they’re living things too and their life matters regarding animal cruelty. Coinciding with this, the last group on the right side is just another angle of the third-step pictures. I think it was the last step specifically because there’s a significant element that makes them more alive which is the colours. However, the third step picture might have colour, but the picture is just taken with monochrome filters. But who knows? This is only my opinion and perspective of what the artist’s thought process was like making these art pieces.
