St John learning

On the Twenty ninth of November (yesterday) a lady from St John came in, her name was Sophie. Sophie is a paramedic. She came to teach us about what you would do if someone was hurt and also showed us how to use an Epi pen and told us what D, R, S, A, B means it means danger, response, seek help, airway and breathing.

We had to get into pairs and do a role play. In our pairs someone would have to pretend to be unconscious and the other person would have to help them! The person helping had to check if there was any danger (glass) then we had to pretend to call 111. We had to put the arm closes to the helper on the other side where there other hand was and then bend there leg so its up but there foots still touching the ground, then we had to grab the bent leg and roll them onto their side and lift there head up because in a real life situation if there facing up and they vomit it will come back down.

Another thing we learnt about was Anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is if your allergic to something and you eat it then you go all puffy and stuff. If you ate something your allergic to than you have to use an Epi pen which is a needle and you stick it in your thy. The saying for it that she said was blue to the sky orange to the thy. Then we had to put are hands up if we were afraid of needles! A lot of people put their hands up and she picked me to go upfront. She got me to use the fake needle and put it in my thy it was scary but there wasn’t actually a needle.

This experience was good! My favourite art was getting to go in pairs and practice the CPR thing and I don’t have a low pint. Have you ever done it before? If you could do it would you? Are you allergic to anything?
