Kia ora koutou,
Today half way through Maori we decided to watch Te Pu O Te Wheke aka Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Kaikohe which obviously they are from Kaikohe and they were down there representing Te Tai Tokerau. We were watching their performance from nationals and my opinion about them is they were awesome, I loved everything about their bracket. There were also 2 other roopu that went down that represented Te Tai Tokerau. (Te Rawhitiroa and Te Rangi Aniwaniwa)
The one item that really stood out to me in their bracket would be their haka and their whakawatea. Their haka was different compared to other groups that Iv’e seen so far and I love how their Kaitataki wasn’t so harsh in the haka like he was calm and feisty at the same time. Their whakawatea really bought me Angitu vibes as well, their taha wairua was really in there and it’s just hard for me to even describe at this moment.
Now Kaikohe is known as Te Pu O Te Wheke (The heart of an octopus) because they are in the middle of busy community services such as Bay of islands, Hokianga, Kaitaia and Dargaville. But they are also known for their many roads that shoot out to other places whether its the main roads or the dustys which they represent a tentacle. Hence why they are known as Te Pu O Te Wheke.
But overall they were absolutely amazing, they deserve a chefs kiss. I don’t know it’s hard for me to describe how good they were.
Te Pu O Te Wheke!! Pai rawa atu ou tu ki Whakatu!!
Koutou katoa whakautu tenei patai. Ko wai to tino roopu Kapa Haka? He aha ai?. (Who is your favourite Kapa Haka group and why?)
