RAK Week

Random Act Of Kindness also known as RAK was a week that celebrates all benefits of kindness and love to everybody and sharing it around whether it’s big or small, for instance opening a door for someone, complimenting someone to see how they would react to you saying something nice about them, leaving a note of appreciation to care takers and many more. When you do something nice for someone you should never ask for something in return no matter what!, you should just be doing it out of the kindness of your heart. Throughout the RAK week our 1HLT class celebrated RAK for the first time in BOIC!. On Monday 17 February Whaea Abby put some quotes on all of the school class whiteboards and I also did some nice things for my friends and made sure to say thank you to all the teachers I had a class with, even though I already do say it. On Tuesday 18 February we went to go draw on the concrete with chalk, I made a game and it had a very good outcome to it being there which was seeing people play it and having fun while they play, Sailor and Erica wrote some quotes on the ground in front of the marae. Drisana also did some writing on the canteen whiteboard. Wednesday 19 February I went to give some cookies that Whaea Abby made to some teachers with a card each and they all smiled and gave me a hug or a high five. We also went downtown to clean some signs and pick up rubbish to give back to the community. Some of the people who were driving past gave us some mana waves and beeps which was very cool and positive to receive. Thursday 20 February, I helped teachers pack up their stuff and I also helped clean the class. Friday 21 February last day of RAK but not the last day of being kind. During Health we went downtown to pick up most of the rubbish on the sidewalk from the school walking to the park and I think we did a pretty good job at it. Despite the fact that we all gave each other a hard time and we also made a new friend, her name is Keana and she goes to Kawakawa Primary School, it was all worth standing outside in the sun and making a small difference in our community. Whaea Abby also put our hard work up on Facebook and she sent out a survey and we received amazing feedback.

This was a very powerful impact on not only the people who received love and kindness but people that gave it because when I gave the cookies to teachers and students their facial expression was surprised, joy, and exciting which was very cool to see that we made someone happy, I think this touched every dominant of Te Whare Tapa Wha.

My prediction was that everyone was grateful to receive a yum treat, a nice card, and games to play during lunch, I chose these ideas because they were nice and easy but a nice fun idea too, I loved seeing people emailing me and saying thank you and sent a photo to me of them with their gifts.

The impact I received during the RAK acts to my te whare tapa wha was

Taha Tinana – When I was giving people biscuits, cards and quotes my tinana was very shaky because I was doing this by myself at first and then I was calm when I gave it to them.

Taha Wairua – I was very scared but as I said in taha tinana I was calm afterwards.

Taha Hinengaro – I hated going by myself because I’m not the type of person who walks alone.

Taha Whanau – my friends and teachers loved it!

RAK started on the 17 February 1995 in San Francisco, Bay Area. This was founded by the Random Act Of Kindness foundation.

In conclusion this was a very good and fun week and looking forward to next year!
