During Health class, we have been learning about the Te Whare Tapa Wha model and the Fonofale model. The Te Whare Tapa Wha model is a Maori model that focuses on Health, there are four pou in this model. Pou number one is Taha Tinana which is your physical health, then Taha Wairua which is your spiritual health, Taha Hinengaro, your mental and emotional wellbeing and lastly Taha Whanau, the social side of your wellbeing. And to complete the whare we need a base, and the base of Te Whare Tapa Wha is the whenua.
The second model which is the Fonofale is about all island ethnicity, this is named the fonofale from the culture of Samoan naming it the “The House Of Support” in this model there are also four pou which is Physical, Spiritual, Mental and other, other stands for your gender, sexuality/sexual, age, and socio-economic. The base for this fale (House) is family.
The similarities between the two models is that both Te Whare Tapa Wha and Fonofale use a house as their model, they are both dedicated to a specific culture, and they both have four dimensions.
The difference between the two is that the last dimension of the Fonofale and Te Whare Tapa Wha have different meanings behind it unlike the Te Whare Tapa Wha, The Fonofale last pou is focused on age. sexual/sexuality and socio economic.
This is a drawing I have made on google image using my amazing skills of both models:
