Artemis II

Hello Everyone,

Artemis II was NASA’s first crewed Artemis mission and sent four astronauts around the Moon before returning them safely to Earth in April 2026.

The crew were Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. Their flight was a major test of the Orion spacecraft and an important step in NASA’s plan to return humans to the Moon and prepare for future missions to Mars.

The mission lasted nearly 10 days and took the astronauts on a huge loop around the Moon rather than landing on it. NASA said the crew completed many important milestones during the trip. One of the most exciting was that Artemis II passed the Apollo 13 record for the farthest crewed spaceflight.

As well as flying far into space, the astronauts tested how Orion worked with people on board. That included checking the spacecraft’s systems for living and working in deep space, and proving that it could protect a crew during the fiery journey back through Earth’s atmosphere. These tests matter because future Artemis missions aim to explore the Moon in greater detail.

The Artemis programme is bigger than one flight. NASA says its goal is to return humans to the Moon, build a long-term presence there and use what is learned to help send people to Mars. Artemis II was a key mission because it showed that astronauts can travel beyond low-Earth orbit in Orion and come back safely.

There were many amazing facts about the mission. The astronauts saw the far side of the Moon, travelled hundreds of thousands of miles, and completed a journey that only a small number of humans have ever made. For children reading about space today, Artemis II is a reminder that exploring the Moon is not just part of history. It is happening again now.

Climate in a ‘state of emergency

Hello everyone

Did you know that

The United Nations has warned that Earth’s climate is now in a “state of emergency” as global warming speeds up and its effects grow stronger.

A new report from the World Meteorological Organisation said the past 11 years have been the hottest ever recorded, mainly because human activities are adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. The report found that last year was the second or third hottest year on record, with the world about 1.43C warmer than it was before large-scale industrial activity began. UN Secretary-General António Guterres said every major climate sign is “flashing red” and called for urgent action.

The report explained that extra heat is building up in the atmosphere and oceans while ice continues to melt. More than 90% of this extra heat is being absorbed by the oceans, which are warming faster and helping to push sea levels higher. Sea level rise is now close to five millimetres each year around the world. Scientists said this can increase the risk of flooding in coastal areas and make storms more dangerous.

Dr Lauren Vargo from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington said the findings matched decades of scientific warnings. She said that although slightly warmer weather might sound pleasant to some people in New Zealand, the risks and costs are far greater than any small benefits. She warned that floods, heatwaves and wildfires are becoming more frequent and more intense. These events can damage homes, roads, nature and people’s health.

The first two boxes are the Dinosaurs death, the next the three are its quick burial, after that its the permineralisation (when the tissues turn tostone) then the fossil is dug up and showcased in a museum.

I hope you liked my blog. if there is anything I can improve on please tell me. bye (=

How fossils were made

Hello my name is Kyle, I am from Hornby High School and what we had to do for science was make a cartoon or animation of how fossils were made.

  • death and quick burial:  when a dinosaur dies its soft parts rot away or get eaten,
  • Turning into rock: Over millions of years  water goes inside them. This water carries bits of minerals. These minerals fill up the tiny holes in the bone and slowly  turn it to rock.
  • Discovery: Millions of years later wind and rain washes away the top layers. This makes it easier for a palaeontologist.

How Fossils Are Made

Hello Readers

Over the last 2 science lesson we have been learning about what are fossils and how fossils are formed, and our task was to create a animation/cartoon, about how fossils are formed.

What Are Fossils & How They Are Formed?

Fossils are the preserved remains, or traces of ancient organisms, plants, animals, and microbes, that are generally over 10,000 years old or older. There are two types of fossils, Trace Fossils like Dinosaur footprints, and Bone Fossils which are the bones of animal that bones have been turned into rocks and later put into museums if found by human beings.

Once a something dies its quickly buried with sediment then after a long period of time it gets compacted with a lot of soil, after that the bones gets turned into rocks, to become a fossil, then after millions of years. Humans will find it then it’ll be in the museum for a long time.

This took me a very long time to do, I hope you liked it and a good rest of your day Bye.
