This week in reading we are learning about the New Zealand wars. The wars were started by the British retaliating form an act that a Maori did. The Maori cut down the British flag. The New Zealand wars started in 1845 and ended in 1872. They lasted for 27 years and ended with the British winning and taking Maori land. From the 8th of July 1844 to January 1845 the flag pole was cut down by Hōne Heke Pōkai. The British lost the first few battles and the Maori surprisingly won some with their experience of the New Zealand terrain. Many villages were destroyed and many Maori didn’t want to fight. My create task was to make an article that was 1800s themed. I used canva and got inspiration from some old news papers. Here is my create:

I enjoyed creating this because it was interesting to learn more about the New Zealand wars and also what happened during them. I found very fun looking at old newspapers.
