Ngaa Marama O Te Tau – Months

Hello everybody! Today in Maori class we are learning about the months in Maori. There are two versions of months in Maori, which are the ‘traditional Māori names for the lunar months’ and the ‘Māori transliteration of English’. The one I am going to show you today is the ‘Māori transliteration of English’ version because this version is more regularly used by native speakers of Maori and because it is a more basic version of the months. I am about to show you the new words and grammar we have learnt in this unit and the work I have done in this class.

Conclusion & Reflection –

In conclusion, I have learnt how to pronounce the months in Maori, how to translate a basic sentence about the Maori months or seasons into English, how to pronounce the seasons in Maori, the basic grammar of how to ask a question in Maori and how to write the months and season in a year in Maori. The hardest part in this class for me is remembering the names of the seasons because unlike the months, the seasons have much more difference between the English and Maori. I enjoy this class because we finally got to learn about the months in Maori and because we learnt about the meaning of the Maori months. I hope in the future we can have more classes learning deeply about the Maori word’s meaning and it’s history.

Thank you for your time and patience,

Divya
