Mataora and Niwareka Purakau

I have been learning about Mataora and Niwareka. It’s a Purakau significant to Taranaki.

This is my mahi about Mataora and Niwareka. The Purakau about Mataora and Niwareka is a Māori story that is about love and tāmoko.

I am proud of my work because I learnt about an oral Māori story that has been passed down through many generations. It was a very interesting story because Mataora hit Niwareka, but then eventually they fell in love all over again and they got back together. I really like hearing about Mataora and Niwareka.

Something I found quite challenging was keeping track of what I was learning about because Matua Luke was reading really fast so I missed out on a couple of key words.

Next time I might try to get the whole story about Mataora and Niwareka in my book because I found it really interesting and captivating.

My tips about this mahi is to not talk when someone is telling a story at any Marae and to listen to the speaker/story teller who is sharing oral stories with you. You never know what key words you are going to need.
