Geothermal energy power plant model.
Our model uses Geothermal power to produce electricity.
This source of energy is renewable because it uses the heat from the Earth’s core which will never run out(unless for some reason it does) but it is a renewable energy source. It also transfers the heat into steam, and the steam goes through a turbine which spins and activates the generator to produce electricity and transfer them to the power lines.
Energy transformations in a geothermal power plant start at heat energy, to kinetic energy and lastly to electrical energy. The key parts of the geothermal model are the earths core/heat transferring the heat into steam, and the steam rotates the turbine which produces the generator to create energy to move the energy to the power lines.
This image is the Tauhara geothermal power plant which produces 174 MW, and is developed by contact energy. It opened in November 2024, and is expected to provide 3.5% of New Zealand s electricity, enough to power 200,000 homes. The Geothermal power plant costs roughly about $924 million to make and contributing to New Zealand’s energy security.
