Why are we dissecting a chicken leg:
We are dissecting this chicken leg so that
we can understand them better. It’s all part of our body.
we cannot cut up humans so we’ll cut up animals as they are closest towards our body parts.

Aim – To identify different parts & systems of the lower leg.
Research – why we are dissecting: as we can’t cut up humans we are going to use animals/chickens instead. Chicken legs are actually quite close to a human leg.
equipment – chicken, gloves, dissecting tray, tools to pick up the chicken (scissors, tweezers), paper, disinfectant.
method – 1 put on your gloves and wait for the tray, the equipment, and the chicken leg, 2 start to get ready to look at the parts, 3 look carefully at the thigh and then start to look your way down to the lower leg/drumstick, 4 feel the tendons, 5 pull apart some on the fatty bits, 6 once your done looking at the chicken remove your gloves, tip all of the chicken bits into the bin and place the trays on top of each other, 7 then clean your hands (by washing them) and dry your hands….

Discussion – We were dissecting a chicken leg to see all of the parts and to learn about humans (Since we can’t dissect a human we have to do animals. And luckily a chicken leg is close to a human leg.) A chicken leg (although it doesn’t seem) is actually quite cool as you can really see most of the parts. The muscles work together to help the chicken to move. The ligaments: hold the bones, joints, organs into place.
Conclusion – For us it didn’t really go to plan as for us, one of my team mates broke it apart. If we were to do it again, I probably would try not to be grossed out (I didn’t do the chicken bit as I was very grossed out.) But I do think, even though i didn’t do the dissecting, I think it was at least fun and very interesting for me.
