This week we have been focusing on reading comprehension. Below is a summary on a text that we read about the effect of influenza on New Zealand-Samoan history.

 

Summary Of The Text “ From Influenza To Independence

In 1914 Germany ruled Samoa. New Zealand sent 1,400 people to capture a German controlled Samoa. For the rest of world war 1 New Zealand enforced military control. Colonel Robert was in charge.

There was a new flu that was going around the world. It was called Influenza. It got to New Zealand then it killed hundreds of thousands of people world wide. 

Then when New Zealand went to Samoa they brought the Flu over to Samoa. Colonel Robert 

Chose not to quarantine so lots of  Samoans died. Then they did a peaceful protest and there were 11 protesters that got killed and 50 got wounded. 

Then the men hid and then the woman protected them. Then after a long time there was a peace treaty and New Zealand apologized. Then they got Independence and were there own country.
