Small voices are seen with small problems.
This text has opened my perspective on how wrong you can be about people. Throughout The Freedom Writers you can see how based on the personality of someone people create assumptions. The volume of how someone communicates their problems is seen as the level of problems they face. Because someone’s not the loudest or most confident they aren’t seen, they’re forgotten. For example Alejandro was scared that because he didn’t have the basic necessities of new clothes and shoes his peers were going to see his old clothes before they see him as a person, that they were going to judge his old clothes before they understood his situation. All teenagers are guilty of judging on materialistic items that if you have an expensive bag or clothes you’re rich. The lesson from this text that teenagers can gain knowledge of is to not make assumptions on people based on their personality and appearance and the importance of not to see people through assumptions but to see them through the connection of conversation and truth.
