Chicken Wing Dissection Science

Aim: What did we try to see during the dissection? – We were trying to find the muscle groups, tendons, ligaments and the bones of the chicken.

Method: What steps did you take while dissecting the chicken leg? – The steps we took were, removing the skin to see the muscle, find the tendon which makes the chicken move, and pulling the tendon to see the wing move, then we isolated the muscle groups, ripped up the muscle to see the bones, then to see the cartilage.

Results: There was no picture taken.

Discussion:

  • Explain the function of tendons for the chicken – Those were made for the chicken to spread it’s wings to fly.
  • Describe/define the function of at least 2 bones you saw – The upper wing is used for the chicken for flapping, which provides a sturdy anchor for the large muscles.
  • Describe/define the function of the knee joint.
